Mayor Phil Gordon has proposed a change to Phoenix Police Department Policy.

The new plan would allow officers to ask people, if they're suspected of a crime, if they're in the U.S. illegally.

Mayor Gordon said the current policy is out of date and doesn't comply with the city's need for immigration enforcement.

But, he said the new plan must include two guidelines. The first, all state and federal constitutional guarantees must be met and second, there can be no racial or ethnic profiling.

He has appointed four private citizens to work with the Phoenix Police Department to change its policy including former U.S. Attorney General Paul Charlton, former U.S. Attorney Jose Rivera, former Arizona Attorney General Grant Woods and former Maricopa County Attorney Rick Romley.

The mayor said he has asked for a draft of the new policy to be completed by December 31st.

PHOENIX - Phoenix police may soon overturn a policy that keeps officers from asking anyone if they are a legal U.S. citizen.

However, that idea isn't sitting to well with everyone.

Reaction to the potential policy changes It's called police operations order 1.4 an order that dictates when a Phoenix officer can call immigration and customs enforcement.

“It is the same order that has caused Phoenix to be labeled as a sanctuary city,â€

Is there anywhere in the U.S. that a city, town, county or state has taken steps to protect it's citizens, that PRO-ILLEGAL GROUPS DO NOT STICK THEIR NOSES IN TO OBJECT? It's as though they think they are a bunch of VIP's instead of LAWBREAKING ILLEGAL ALIENS.
