CA: Businesses Cooperating with ICE to be Fined!
OCT. 5, 2017, 2:16 P.M.REPORTING FROM SACRAMENTO
California expands protections for immigrants against ICE workplace raids
by Jazmine Ulloa
Gov. Jerry Brown signed a bill into law Thursday to expand workplace protections for employees who came to the U.S. illegally, part of the state’s response to the Trump administration's call for greater immigration enforcement.
The bill by Assemblyman David Chiu (D-San Francisco) prohibits employers from allowing federal immigration agents on private business property without a judicial warrant. It also requires business owners to give their employees public notice — within 72 hours — of federal immigration inspections of employee records.
Businesses that fail to provide notice to employees face penalties of $2,000 to $5,000 for a first violation, and $5,000 to $10,000 for each subsequent violation, though some exceptions may apply.
New amendments scaled back some of the requirements on employers, helping quell opposition from dozens of business and agricultural associations. Under the new law, employers will have more flexibility to notify employees about reviews.
Chiu has said he filed the bill in response to President Trump's attacks on immigrant communities. Lawmakers pointed to California's troubled history of worksite raids. In the 1980s, the federal government launched aggressive immigration raids in Mexican and Central American neighborhoods in Los Angeles.
"In an environment of division and fear, California must continue to defend its workers, to guard its values and to ensure that its laws protect all of our residents,” Chiu has said.

This could get real expensive for California employers, jail and fines by the feds and lack of notice to employee fines by the state. If I were ICE, I'd start the audits with all of California's defense industries including all those subcontractors.

If I were a California defense industry, I'd be looking for a new state to locate my operations in, one where you can hire legally without wondering or risk, a state where Pro-America citizens rule, and be in a state that appreciates both your business and US immigration laws.

Is This Like POT laws?
Marijuana is illegal under Federal Law. But California made it legal in their state, and the Feds look the other way. Will this be the same, where the Feds look the other way as California defies Federal Law?
Of course I can see it as a compensation where if the Feds cut off money to sanctuary cities or states, the state makes up the loss on the backs of employers. Like Judy says, industry better start looking for a cheaper place to do business.

I wonder how much the Chinese are buying up California assets as well? I see real estate prices soaring here, and some have said that many Californians have sold homes to Chinese interests. Don't know if this is really true or a mere rumour. I know that California is a haven for emigres from all over the world, especially those looking to make quick money. Have run into some of those to my chagrin.
I'm glad to see Jeff Sessions as attorney general but I doubt that he will do anything drastic. All of these states have to do is find some liberal federal judges and they can string policies like this out for years. Maybe there will be another resignation on the SCOTUS? Actually immigration law, if anything, should be settled in the federal courts, but jurisdiction shoppers can be very creative!"Men of low degree are vanity, Men of high degree are a lie. " David
