Rank and File Union Members Breaking With AFL-CIO Over Illeg

FAIR: Rank and File Union Members Breaking With AFL-CIO Over Illegal Immigration
Friday October 13, 12:57 pm ET

WASHINGTON, Oct. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- While the AFL-CIO leadership remains committed to a massive illegal alien amnesty program, rank and file workers and constituent locals are becoming increasingly vocal in asserting that such a policy would do irreparable harm to American workers. The latest crack in the AFL-CIO's support for an illegal alien amnesty is the Pittsburgh Plumbers Local No. 27, which approved a resolution demanding that their union dues not be used for activities that support illegal aliens.

The resolution, passed on October 10, follows a similar position taken last month by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, a national union representing some 750,000 building trades workers. Earlier this summer, Teamster president James Hoffa expressed opposition to legalization for millions of illegal immigrants and called for an overhaul of U.S. immigration policies that he believes are detrimental to the interests of American workers.

"There is an unmistakable trend occurring out there beyond the Beltway," noted Dan Stein, president of FAIR. "Americans, from all walks of life, at the grassroots are mobilizing to stop a massive illegal alien guest worker amnesty program being promoted by a disengaged elite. Whether it is union members acting to protect their jobs and wages, or local governments, like Hazleton, Pennsylvania, acting to protect local residents from costs and crime associated with illegal immigration, Americans are making it clear that they will not sit quietly while their interests are being sold out."

In their resolution, the Pittsburgh Plumbers union sharply criticizes the AFL-CIO leadership's positions on dealing with illegal immigration. Local 27 "wants to express our outrage regarding the AFL-CIO's stance on supporting millions of illegal aliens," states the resolution. Illegal immigration is "harming our country," and specifically the interests of working Americans, declares Local 27.

"The position taken by the Pittsburgh Plumber's local, and the lead taken by Hazleton Mayor Lou Barletta to enforce immigration laws locally, is especially significant as Pennsylvania's Senator Arlen Specter has been among the leading congressional proponents of a guest worker amnesty program that would decimate American workers and overwhelm local governments," said Stein. "Politicians who spend their time trading favors with K Street lobbyists had better start paying attention to the grassroots. The American people see mass illegal immigration and plans for a guest worker amnesty program as a threat to their livelihoods and their way of life, and they will not sit by quietly as Washington sells them out."

Looks like there is a "crack" in the unions cohesiveness (LOL crack, plumbers!!!!.....).

Seriously, this is good to hear, more and more Americans from all walks of life are speaking out and the politicians better listen up and behave, or they will be doing the jobs that the illegals will not do!!!!

A good way to get your local paper to print the story is to e-mail it to them requesting they print it. I've sent it to the Al-Jazeera Central (Atlanta Journal-Constitution) and others here in the area.

This has been brewing ever since the AFL-CIO leadership decided to become pro-illegal immigrant activists. The outrage is only going to get louder as more local unions become more vocal in their dessention. The leadership looks to the illegal immigrants as a way to broaden their due paying membership, but the members that are already paying their dues aren't going to stand for it. I'm surprised this hasn't become an issue before now.

This is not rocket science. Illegals depress wages. Union members are sold out and forced to work for less. If there was any one group which one would have thought would come out on the side of the American working man, it would have been the unions. Guess not.

The unions have sold out along with corporate America, the US govt., the Chamber of Commerce, the ACLU, the Catholic bishops, and in particular the President and the Senate.

Repeal the 17th Amendment. Maybe then the ba$tards in the Senate will listen up. On the Pres, well, elections are coming. Write in Paul or Tancredo.

Millions upon millions of demanding, ignorant, easily manipulated, ready made socialist slaves was just too much to resist in the face of declining membership.
