Reid on Immigration Bill: 'The Devil is in the Details'

Reid on Immigration Bill: 'The Devil is in the Details'

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid asserted his commitment to getting the DREAM Act passed through the Senate, but he took issue with a Republican alternative to the bill on Sunday.

Speaking on Univision’s Al Punto, Reid said that while he’s willing to work with Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., on an immigration bill, the junior senator needs to get something in writing.

“The problem is right now there has not been a single word put on paper, not a word, and remember in anything we do in life, the Devil is in the details,” Reid said, adding that “he says one thing to one group, another thing to another group.”

The DREAM Act, as currently stands, would provide a way for young people brought illegally to the U.S. by their parents who engage in higher education or military service to live in the country legally and gain U.S. citizenship. Rubio has said his version would not include an expedited pathway to citizenship, and that seems to remain a sticking point between Democrats and Republicans. Reid said he would not support a bill that didn't include such an option.

“Right now I am bound and determined to pass the DREAM act that's now before the Congress. If he has something better and something that I think is going to be okay, I will be happy to support it, but let’s stop this nonsense of talking about it,” he said.

Though President Obama has come under fire from Hispanic leaders for not doing enough on immigration, Reid did not seem worried that the president may have trouble getting Hispanics to the polls in November. “Because of what the republicans have done on wide ranging issues to be anti-Hispanic, the polls show Democrats leading,” he said.

But Reid, D-Nev., did admit that Obama and Congress could do more.

“President Obama is not a perfect man. He hasn't been a perfect president. He's been a very, very good president. And we've done some extremely good things, especially as it relates to the dreamers,” he said, adding, however, that “there's more that can be done.”

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid spoke to Jorge Ramos on "Al Punto" about his position on gay marriage and the impact of Pres.Obama's endorsement on his re-election campaign; about Sen. Marco Rubio's version of the Dream Act; and on whether Sheriff Joe Arpaio should quit after the Justice Department's lawsuit for racial profiling.

Would'nt a Dream act split families?

Several years ago I got an email from Reid. He admitted that the hospitality industry depended upon cheap labor. That was who he represented and he would support those who vote for him. MY interpretation: he would support those who contribute to his campaigns. Most things can be ansered by "following the money."

He had big support from the Nevada Casinos in his last election. The first bill he put forward after the election was an internet gambling bill, what a coincidence.

I think that he is such an accomplished liar. It seems that he will say anything to pander for a vote to stay in power. I can't help but feel that his willingness to lie with a straight face shows a lack of character and a hint of narcissism. Just an impression.
I wonder if the SEIU contract, awarded by his son as a commissioner, for the maintenance of the voting machines in Clark County has been renewed.

(Photo via antzinpantz.com) Rush reported today on his radio show that Rory Reid, the son of Nevada U.S. Senator Harry Reid, is in charge of the voting machines that were reported as malfunctioning and are serviced by the SEIU. Rory Reid is running as the Democratic nominee for governor of Nevada against Republican Brian Sandoval .
Rory currently holds the office of Chairman of the powerful Clark County Commission and is the former chairman of the Nevada Democratic Party; he was elected to the Clark County Commission in 2002. Rory, in his position as Chairman of Clark County Commission, is a member of The Nevada Association of Counties ( NACO ) . NACO’s Mission Statement is “ To encourage county government to adopt and maintain local, regional, state and national cooperation which will result in a positive influence on public policy and optimize the management of county resources; to provide valuable education and support services that will maximize efficiency and foster public trust in county government. ” Rush said : This is Mark Hemingway in the Washington Examiner: “Clark County is where three quarters of Nevada’s residents and live and where Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s son Rory is a county commissioner.” That means that Harry Reid’s son is the person in charge of overseeing the election machines that are being maintained by the SEIU. Now, why would Rory Reid be suspected of any shenanigans here? But he is. Yes. Yes he is. Rasmussen reports that with one week to go, Republican Brian Sandoval leads Democrat Rory Reid by more than 20 points in Nevada’s governor race. I guess his “Call Me Rory” campaign didn’t fool the voters of Nevada. Hat Tip Rachel Pulaski
