    Illegal workers’ labor helps you

    Illegal workers’ labor helps you
Your life would be very different without them

They’re America’s invisible workers. They bus the tables in restaurants and clean bathrooms in people’s homes. They patch roofs and sweep superstore floors in the early a.m. hours. If you notice them, much less exchange words with them, it tends to be on a superficial level. You don’t know, and may not care, whether they’re undocumented or what country they come from.

However much attention you pay to these background workers, your life would be very different — and more expensive — if they weren’t here to fill such low-paying jobs. You think things cost a lot now? Take a moment to consider how much more you would pay to dine out, to shop, to stay in nice hotels, to keep that lawn green without America’s invisible work force performing these labor-intensive tasks.

Consider the impact on businesses if they weren’t able to rely on minimum wage earners to do jobs that other members of the American work force are unwilling to perform — or at least unwilling to perform at such low wages.

In this year of seismic emotion on the immigration issue, Labor Day no doubt will spark some heated discussions about undocumented workers and their positive and negative impact on the economy. People will argue over their char-grilled burgers and hot dogs whether illegals should be deported or given some kind of amnesty.

In Chicago, Elvira Arellano may re-enter the conversation, now that the deported former queen of sanctuary is petitioning the president of Mexico to make her “peace and justiceâ€

Yes, they help depress American wages and living standards. They have helped make it hard for my two teenagers to find jobs.

Yes, my life would be different without illegals, it would be much better! Of course they don't talk about the $400 billion and climbing illegal aliens cost Americans every year.

As the article says, illegals contribute $30 billion, but they cost us $400 billion, 12 times as much!

A sizable chunk of their earnings goes into the American economy — an estimated $30 billion annually.
Absolutely backwards!! What anonymous editor wrote this drivel??

A very large portion of that $30B goes OUT of our economy! It is sent home to other countries, thanks to the Spanish language Western Union moneygram forms at your local supermarket. That is a $30B drain on our economy. And this money is Mexico's 2nd largest contribution to their GDP (sic - this part isn't domestic!) after oil.

If legal residents were earning the wages (maybe $50B if legal wages were paid) and spending the money in our country, our economy would be much better off, with maybe an additional $50B going into our economy. That $50B would then recirculate, multiply, and boost our economy. And with no costly drain on social services, emergency rooms, etc., etc., instead of a $30B loss, we might have a net $100B gain.

Consider how much more you would pay to dine out, to shop without America's invisible work force.
    I can hardly wait!!

I consider it a decent trade off. I pay an extra $5 for my dinner and I DO NOT get salmonella, e.coli etc... and an AMERICAN WORKER gets a paycheck. Sounds good to me.

Geez, how much longer do we have to listen to these blabbering idiots? Let's just deport all the illegal aliens and then their supporters will no longer have anything to write or talk about!

My goodness! They get more desperate each and every day, don't they?

I'm old enough to remember when Made in U.S.A was something to be proud of. I can still hear the song--'Just look for - the Union label- ...
I'm also old enough to remember working in the fields with the neighbor kids- picking and harvesting whatever was ready at the time. We were usually 'paid' with a bushel here and a bushel there of that produce which we helped harvest. AND we got lotsa cold RC colas and freeze pops for 'FREE'! Any farmer who didn't have enough help simply didn't offer enough of those two magic potions listed in the previous sentence.
However, what I don't remember was having to worry about locking the doors and windows at night, rampant destruction and killing done by folks from other countries here without permission, the words "Illegal Aliens". I also don't remember dirty restaurants and hotels, tainted foods, or overgrown unkept lawns. Every house I ever saw growing up had a roof and most folks somehow managed to get the house painted every few years. Funny how I don't remember hearing anything but English spoken in and out of school- even in the dime stores and grocery stores. All signs were printed in English. All labels were, too. Oh, and we didn't have to press 1 for anything! Despite the even/odd days to fill up your car, things were pretty good. And somehow we managed all this WITHOUT the 'help' of, what did the author call them? Oh yeah--BACKGROUND WORKERS.
Lordy, life was GOOD then. But I was just a kid- whadda I know?
