2,600 illegal alien prisoners, convicted felons have already been released
The shameful release of Level 1 — highest risk — aggravated felons being blamed on the sequestration was more than U.S. Rep Trey Gowdy could handle. Here the South Carolina Republican uses his skills honed as a federal prosecutor to eviscerate U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) director John Morton, remarking that it looked like a “political determination, not a monetary determination,” as part of the sequester campaign’s “strategy to get the public fired up.”
Recidivist drunk drivers — potential killers of innocents — convicted drug and sex offenders, thieves, gang members, and other criminals, whose releases jeopardize public safety, were freed onto American streets, in anticipation of sequestration budget cuts. No effort was made to notify victims, governors, sheriffs or U.S. Attorneys. Several criminals have already been rearrested.
In Arizona, the numbers of illegal aliens released from custody, varies wildly. Last month Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu, who reported that more than 500 inmates were released in his county alone, put Obama’s political ploy in proper perspective. “President Obama would never release 500 criminal illegals to the streets of his hometown, yet he has no problem with releasing them in Arizona. The safety of the public is threatened and the rule of law discarded as a political tactic in this sequester battle,” he said.
