So E-verify verifies our Social Security number?
I wonder if our picture should be attached to our Social Security number too, or retinal eye scan system with our number.
Stop the identity theft and fraud costing us BILLION upon BILLONS of dollars.

If some newspaper is touting it, we must know it is a hoax.
They do not need any more invasive information.
I had lost my SS card and didn't carry one for many years. I knew my number, but it's only been fairly recently everyone wanted your SS#. It truly 'wasn't for identification purposes' as it is now.
We were thinking of moving to another state when my husband retired from a company. I decided I might need an actual card. I walked into the SS office in that state, gave them my SS#. In about a minute or two, the lady said, 'yes. you name is so and so, you born born on such and such date, your Mother was so and so, your Father was so and so, you were born in such and such town and state, your Mother was a housewife, your Father worked at such and such job and you are a caucasian female.
Now if they can get that information that quickly, the company could look at the person presenting the card and weed out a lot of people that way. If, however, it only states the card is a 'valid number', it really does nothing to prove the presenter's ownership of the number.

I don't how much good E-Verify will do, but it will do some, maybe even a lot. I support it because it's easy, it's fast and better than the totally stupid and ineffective I-9 form. What a joke that turned out to be.

E-Verify
E-Verify was originally established in 1997 as the Basic Pilot Program to prevent undocumented immigrants and other people violated immigration laws from obtaining employment illegally in the United States. In August 2007, DHS secretary Michael Chertoff and Commerce secretary Carlos Gutierrez announced several steps to expand employment eligibility verification. They started by requiring all federal contractors and vendors to use E-Verify. The Internet-based program is free and maintained by the United States government. Some states have passed legislation making it mandatory for certain businesses, other states require all employers use E-Verify.
E-Verify compares information from an employee's Employment Eligibility Verification Form I-9 to data from U.S. government records. If the information matches, that employee is eligible to work in the United States. If there is a mismatch, E-Verify alerts the employer and the employee is allowed to work while he or she resolves the problem; they must contact the appropriate agency to resolve the mismatch within eight federal government work days from the referral date.[1] The program is operated by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in partnership with Social Security Administration.
According to the DHS website, more than 600,000 employers now use E-Verify.[2] Over 1,400 companies enroll in the program every week.[3] According to DHS, in 2011 a random sample of E-Verify users was surveyed on satisfaction with the program. DHS called the results "outstanding" noting that E-Verify received an overall customer satisfaction rating of 85, which is "based on the American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI), the national indicator of customer evaluations of the quality of goods and services available to U.S. residents." DHS notes that E-Verify’s score of 85 is a three-point increase from the 2010 survey and that E-Verify is "a trailblazer when compared to its federal government counterparts" because "E-Verify’s score is 20 points above the current federal government average."[4]

Only if you use E-Verify and most companies don't. Why have the I-9 if you have E-Verify?

The I-9 is the source of the info the employer has to enter into the E-verify system.
And the I-9 is the paper copy that has to be kept on file as proof later on.
