REPORT DISPELS MYTH of ILLEGALS and CRIME

Report does not address ILLEGALS just non native born in United States Jails to confuse the stats. The problem is ILLEGALS!! The comments by the readers at the bottom show MOST American get it, but of course the others think anyone who disagree are HATERS.

Report dispels myth of immigrants and crime

You hear it all the time in fiery debates about illegal immigration: These undocumented immigrants are killing people left and right. They're filling up our jails and prisons. It's a powerful perception -- and tool of rhetoric -- used by critics of illegal immigration, but is it true? No, says an eye-opening report this week from the Public Policy Institute of California.

Here are key findings by the non-partisan research group:

**People born outside the United States make up about 35 percent of California's adult population but represent only about 17 percent of the state prison population.

**U.S.-born adult men are incarcerated in state prisons at rates up to 3.3 times higher than foreign-born men.

**Among men ages 18-40 - the age group most likely to commit crime - those born in the United States are 10 times more likely than immigrants to be in county jail or state prison.

Here's an excerpt from a San Jose Mercury News story on the report:

Countering a widespread belief, a new report shows California's foreign-born population -- including illegal immigrants -- makes up only a sliver of the state's population of inmates.

The report released Monday by the Public Policy Institute of California also suggests that the foreign-born population, which makes up more than a third of the state's adults, plays a disproportionately smaller role in serious crime.

"Crime, Corrections, and California: What Does Immigration Have to Do with It?" gives one of the clearest glimpses yet into the effect of immigrants and immigration on the state's justice system.

It also aims to dispel the perception that cities with large foreign-born populations are criminal hot beds, with several California cities showing a dip in police activity amid recent immigration waves.

One illegal alien committing crime is one too many.They admit 12 million are here illegally-that is 12 million committing a crime -100% are criminals- and the admitted 17% .I dispute these facts,because they assume every person who is not completely documented as a admitted illegal is a US citizen.In 1980 there were only about 24,000 in califonia prisons -with influx of illegals since then, it is around 9 times that amount in califonia prisons and it has the highest amount of drug offenders per prison population.This also is a state with liberal judges and juries who often wont convict people because of fear of gang revenge or feel kinship from ethnic or racial group-also a lot of these criminlas have plea bargined for lesser crime because a lot of DA know in some areas they will never get a conviction-it is like the juries in mississippi who would not convict white people for certain crimes now in california in reverse-95% 0f warrents for murder suspects are illegal aliens-fact!

This report is misleading and it doesn't make a difference ....just look at the reports of AMericans who died just this month at the hands of crimes committed by illegal aliens...the facts and stories speak for themselves. One criminal illegal alien IS one too many. Americans are realizing the magnitude of the illegal alien crime problem every day when the stories are reported.

i bet if you were to take the amount of illegal crimes as proportioned to the number of illegals here agains thte number of american citizens and the number of americans committing crimes the numbers will be totally different.

And what kind of crimes are they measuring. Recently I have been victimized in two separate cases of broker activity (both times by immigrant businessmen) that required some type of legal response. One case was handled by a lawyer who worked out a settlement. In the other there was disciplinary action taken by a regulatory agency; this type of thing may result in a fine and there is still damage to the public. Yet the perpetrators won't go to prison, so prison statistics alone are not good indicators. I have been warned now to stay away from Orange County and Irvine, California since it is rife with cheaters. But they probably won't go to jail. So what value are these stats?

Any time you have a population influx of people who are not familiar with our laws there are violations. Those may not fall in the "street crime" category, but can still be very damaging and destructive.

all who die at the hands of ILLEGAL aliens is totally unnecessary because laws are not being inforced.

While the majority of illegals aren't counted because they head for the border and aren't IN jail to be counted.

There was an announcer on the radio that pointed out that when citizens commit a crime they tack on as much as possible to heighten the crime, while they've been instructed to ignore or not add on crimes in order to keep them misdameanours for illegals. How many of these with no match SS#'s are being charged with felony fraud?

They are just looking at those who actually made it in the jail............ :roll:

Heck they won't even bust a dealer at the border if he doesn't have over 500 lbs of pot where a citizen is hauled away with paraphanalia.

* They were arrested at least a total of 459,614 times, averaging about
8 arrests per illegal alien.[Note 1]

* Ninety-seven percent had more than 1 arrest. About 38 percent had
between 2 and 5 arrests, 32 percent had between 6 and 10 arrests, and
26 percent had over 11 arrests.

* Eighty-one percent of all arrests occurred after 1990.

[1] An arrest does not necessarily result in a prosecution or a
conviction.

Results in Brief: How many and what type of criminal offenses were they
arrested for?

For our study population of 55,322 illegal aliens:

* They were arrested for at least a total of nearly 700,000 criminal
offenses, averaging 13 offenses per alien.

* About 24 percent were drug offenses.

* About 21 percent were immigration offenses.

* About 15 percent were property-related offenses such as burglary,
larceny-theft, motor vehicle theft, and property damage.

* About 12 percent were for murder, robbery, assault, and sexually
related crimes.

* The remaining 28 percent were for other offenses such as traffic
violations, including driving under the influence; fraud—including
forgery and counterfeiting; weapons violations; and obstruction of
justice.
