Immigrants account for one in eight U.S. residents as the legal and illegal immigrant population reached a record of 37.9 million in 2007, the highest level in 80 years, according to a new report released today by the Washington-based Center for Immigration Studies, an independent research institute which examines the impact of immigration on the nation.
