DOUGLAS, Ariz. - Authorities say one person has been wounded in a shooting along the Arizona-New Mexico border involving a U.S. Border Patrol agent.

Cochise County Sheriff’s officials say they were asked to assist the Border Patrol with the incident shortly after 11 a.m. Monday.

Details are sketchy, but sheriff’s officials say a person believed to be in the country illegally was wounded in the shooting.

They say the shooting occurred east of Arizona 80 near Skeleton Canyon.

The Border Patrol didn’t immediately provide any information on the circumstances surrounding the shooting or whether the agent or anyone else was injured.

Cochise County authorities say the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office in New Mexico has been notified of the incident.

DOUGLAS, AZ - Authorities say a suspect shot and wounded by a Border Patrol agent in southeastern Arizona during a struggle was one of two men who ran from a truck carrying more than a ton of marijuana.

A Customs and Border Protection spokesman says the shooting occurred Monday after agents responding to a sensor alert found the truck stuck in mud near Apache, which is about 35 miles northeast of Douglas.

CBP spokesman Rob Daniels says the man assaulted the agent as he was being arrested.

The agent feared for his life and shot the man.

Daniels says the wounded man remains hospitalized in stable condition after treatment of an upper torso wound.

A second man who ran from the truck was arrested.

The names of the two suspects haven't been released.
