Reports: Fed drug raid nets 35 arrests at Boeing plant

Sept. 29, 2011, 12:16 p.m. EDT

RIDLEY - FBI agents swarmed over the Boeing plant in Ridley Township this morning to bust up what is being described as a drug ring, according to a broadcast reports.

Federal agents swooped down on the plant at 7 a.m. and arrested as many as 35 workers.

The ring is believed to have been involved in prescription drugs and involved both current and former Boeing employees, as well as outside individuals, according to Fox-29.

The suspects were to be arraigned in federal court Thursday afternoon.

The U.S. Attorney and FBI are planning a press conference at 1 o'clock this afternoon to detail the raid and arrests.

A spokesperson for the U.S. Attorney this morning declined to comment on the Fox report, saying only that a press conference was being held this afternoon.

A spokesperson for Boeing also declined comment.

Boeing is the county's biggest employer, with more than 6,000 workers. Just last week they held celebration at the plant to mark 50 years of production of the workhouse Chinook helicopter and a new production facility.

The fusleage of the tilt-rotor V-22 Osprey also is produced at the Ridley plant.
