Third suspect named in cartel ordered hit

A third suspect has been charged in connection with a double homicide in Brownsville that police believe stemmed from drug war violence in Mexico.

A warrant has been issued for the arrest of Gilberto Soto, 25, on two counts of murder for his role in the deaths of Omar Castillo Flores, 25, and Juan Guadalupe Perez Chavez, 38, on Sept. 30, a Brownsville police bulletin stated.

Soto is the latest suspect named in the murder. In November, Police Chief Carlos Garcia announced the names of two other suspects wanted in connection with the murder.

Roberto De Luna Magallón, 29, and Gilberto Preciado Franco, 31, both of Nuevo Laredo, are named in an arrest warrant charging them with murder. Police say both suspects are considered to be members of the Gulf Cartel.

The murders are considered to be the some first evidence of spillover violence from the drug war.

On the day of the murder, the victims were found by authorities inside a Gray Dodge pickup along FM 511; the truck and their bodies were riddled with bullets.
