Requiem for Montezuma: How the US is Losing the Southwest

There is little doubt that Al Qaeda poses a clear and present danger to the United States. Fortunately, our Homeland Security is aware and vigilant to anti-American Islamicists who might seek to come here for the purpose causing injury to our country.
However, there is another threat, which is just as militant, just as bitter against America, and already here on our shores. It is the growing movement by Chicano activists under the “Aztlan umbrella seeking to re-conquer Texas, New Mexico, Nevada and parts of 4 other states that were once considered part of the Aztec Empire, and many Mexicans believe were illegally annexed by the United States from Mexico.

The movement encompasses not just a few starry-eyed idealists. There are educators, congressmen, mayors and law enforcement officials who are sympathetic to the cause. Organizations like Mecha, La Vos De Aztlan, La Raza, and Republica del Norte are just a few of the banners that they organize under. The huge immigration from our southern borders, both legal and illegal, is incorporated into the agenda of the Aztlanites who seek to gain a majority population in the areas they plan to secede. They liken their situation to that of the Palestinians in Israel: A (pending) majority, rightfully calling the land their home, being oppressed by a minority of usurpers. Even the security fence in Israel is being likened to any border fences between the U.S. and Mexico. (Many of these groups, incidentally, are rabidly anti-Semitic, and propagate material like “Protocols of the Elders of Zion as evidence of the evils of Jewry).
In their corner are the majority of the citizens of Mexico. A recent Zogby poll showed that 58% of those polled in Mexico agreed with the statement that "The territory of the Southwest U.S. rightfully belongs to Mexico." Mexican President Vincent Fox obviously would have no issue with vast areas of land, particularly that of Southern California, coming back under Mexican rule. To him, the borders between the two countries are arbitrary, and subject to change.
Unfortunately, many of our elected officials seem oblivious to, or even complicit in the plot to cede 14% of our country to Mexico. Even President Bush, a “compassionate conservative thinks “amnesty to illegal aliens is somehow going to solve the immigration problem. Since he floated the idea, the number of illegal border crossings has ballooned.
The Aztlantian Movement poses perhaps the biggest threat to U.S. security today. The number of Mexican nationals in the U.S. illegally is the largest non-citizen group in the country. Their plan is, by sheer force of numbers, overwhelm the areas they emigrate to, and win control at the ballot box -(a plan we are a party to if we issue Social Security numbers to illegal aliens). If the U.S Federal Government resists, or objects, many are strategically planning a violent guerrilla campaign to achieve their goals.
The threat is real indeed. Of course to call attention to the issue will earn someone the derogatory label as a xenophobe, or racist or whatnot. People will say what they will. Yet the facts are plain: for the United States to remain just that, 50 united states, we need to be able to secure and protect our own borders; a job we are doing poorly right now.
