Chanting "We want to vote," about 75 legal residents whose applications for U.S. citizenship have been delayed protested outside the U.S. Citizen and Immigration Services office in Dallas on Monday.

The residents want to become citizens in time to register as voters and cast ballots in this year's presidential election. Citizenship applications typically take about seven months to process. An increase in applications, however, has caused delays as long as 18 months, the USCIS reported.

Some protestors wore these T-shirts. A crowd gathered outside the USCIS field office in Dallas on Monday sang "God Bless America" and waved American flags. Some wore T-shirts that read, “We waited in line, we followed the rules. Citizens 7/4/08. Don’t break the promise.â€

They are trying to pressure DHS to fast track process more people than we allow in every year so these people that are most likely not eligible for citizenship and have been living here illegally can vote in the next election. Anchor baby parents/sham marriage/visas are about to expire...

They can wait just like everyone else and they can be denied just like everyone else.

Sounds like a typical ploy of a particular political party. Chicago may have it's voting dead, Dallas has it's newly arrived.

"Celestina Valderas, 23 of Albuquerque, N.M., moved to the U.S. six years ago from Mexico with hopes of attending college. After taking English classes for six months, Mrs. Valderas became an insurance agent. She decided to attend nursing school and find more time to spend with her children"

Sounds like Mrs. Valderas found a fast track to educating herself! Currently our city colleges have a two year waiting period for nursing programs, with financial aide for the poor...as usual American middle class are forced to stand in line behind those who stole across our border.

What about all of the lost vacations for US Citizens when they had the backlog of passports last year? It is o.k. they lost out because they are citizens.

I would like to know how long they have been here and when did they apply. Let me guess the last few days before the rate increase in July.

Demand all you want, welcome to becoming a U.S. Citizen and the illegal aliens will get what you use to get.

I GET THE IMPRESSION THAT IMMIGRANTS DONT REALLY UNDERSTAND THE CONCEPT OF A "LINE". THE GOVERNMENT SHOULD GIVE TUTORIALS ON WAITING IN LINE. I THINK IT SHOULD BE PART OF THE CITIZENSHIP PROCESS. THEY HAVE TO PROVE THEY KNOW WHAT A LINE IS, KNOW HOW TO WAIT IN A LINE AND ARE WILLING TO WAIT IN LINE.

As long as our leaders allow illegal immigration to happen along with the many benefits and services given to them, we can expect this to happen. A lot of times, it's the government that is wrong as well as the illegal.
