RGV Agents Thwart Two Drug Smuggling Attempts in a Matter of Hours

EDINBURG, Texas –Border Patrol agents from the Rio Grande Valley Sector stop two smuggling attempts in Starr County that resulted in the seizure of 345 lbs. of marijuana with an estimated value of $276K.

This morning, agents assigned to the Rio Grande City (RGC) station conducting patrol operations near Escobares, Texas, observed ten subjects carrying bundles of contraband.

When the subjects noticed the agents they fled to the Rio Grande and swam back to Mexico.

Agents seized five abandoned bundles of marijuana weighing 230 lbs.

Last night, RGC agents observed several subjects load bundles of narcotic into an SUV near Roma, Texas. Agents responded to the location and discovered the vehicle abandoned with several bundles of marijuana inside. The weight of the marijuana is approximately 115 lbs.

The public is encouraged to take a stand against crime in their communities and report suspicious activity at 800-863-9382.

Even with the spread of the COVID-19 virus, human smugglers continue to try these brazen attempts with zero regard for the lives they endanger nor to the health of the citizens of our great nation. The U.S. Border Patrol agents of the Rio Grande Valley Sector will continue to safeguard the nation and community against these criminal elements.

We need military tanks and bulldozers on that border!

Let them put giant boulders along that Rio Grande to stop them dumping these drugs on our soil.

And make it difficult for them to swim across it.
