State Rep. Grace Diaz’s proposal would allow illegal immigrants applying to a state college or university to qualify for in-state tuition.

PROVIDENCE — State Rep. Grace Diaz said yesterday that she wants all students to pursue the American dream of a college education, no matter their immigration status. And she won’t stop until her legislation passes.
Diaz, D-Providence, held a news conference to call attention to her bill, the Student Equal Opportunity Act, which would allow all students who go through and graduate from Rhode Island’s high schools to qualify for in-state tuition, regardless of whether they are undocumented.
Diaz said this marks the fifth year she has pushed such legislation. She acknowledged it is controversial.

Apparently....there's private collusion amongst college officials to skirt federal immigration laws and not only waive admission requirements like visas and other admin. requirements for illegal alien students but also there's an underground network of administrators that have been giving private University funds to illegals to pay their tuitions......and some students who have uncovered this are NOT happy.....read on.....

A Message to Prospective Undocumented Students
High school counselors keep lists – short lists based on unofficial, one-on-one conversations about which colleges, mostly private ones, admit and grant institutional aid to illegal immigrants, says David Hawkins, director of public policy and research for the National Association for College Admission Counseling.

“What I consistently hear from counselors is they’re constantly trying to figure out what colleges they might have any chance to send an undocumented student to, realistically, with financial aid,â€

You got that right. 98% of our problems today stem from these so called Academics.
Hey maybe we need to outsource colleges to India.

I have tried to contact Gov Carcieri by email--
I have tried to contact Gov Carcieri by email--but the Gov's homepage just takes me to another page that does not have an email address.
I believe the Governor should ask the Attorney General of the state of RI to file charges against Diaz. She is openly violating her oath of ofice and her duties as a citizen by encouraging an official organ of the staet of RI to violate federal law. This, if I remember my readings correctly, is a felony.

Tuition break for all immigrants backed by author at Brown

PROVIDENCE — Alejandra Rincon, author of Undocumented Immigrants and Higher Education, told her audience last night at Brown University that her work in the Houston and Austin independent school districts led her to join with others to press for a legal mandate for in-state tuition for undocumented immigrants in Texas.
Rincon said she saw firsthand the daily struggle faced by undocumented parents and students who wanted to go to college. Parents told stories of living in hiding, of never cashing tax-refund checks, of trying desperately to reunite their families after years of separation, of struggling to grant their greatest wish for their child — an education.
The Coalition for Higher Education for Immigrant Students successfully fought for in-state tuition for students in Texas in 2001 and it could happen in Rhode Island, Rincon said. It takes education of the public and a desire to fight for it, she said.
Rincon gave her talk a day after state Rep. Grace Diaz, D-Providence, proposed the Students Equal Opportunity Act in the General Assembly which would allow all students who go through and graduate from high schools in Rhode Island to qualify for in-state tuition regardless of their legal status in this country. Diaz was present last night during Rincon’s talk and was part of a panel that included immigration lawyer Roberto Gonzalez.
Diaz’s announcement of her bill sparked a barrage of angry e-mails from Rhode Islanders who say undocumented students shouldn’t get a free ride. Many of them clogged the projo.com Web site and radio shows with negative reactions, but she seemed undaunted.
