    Richardson: Enforce Illegal Immigration

    Richardson: Enforce Illegal Immigration

Immigration is "a divisive, nasty issue that is tearing us apart,” declared New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson, one of the nation’s leaders in the fight for secure borders.

Last August Richardson declared a state of emergency in four New Mexico counties bordering Mexico.

Addressing the Forum Club of the Palm Beaches in Florida, Richardson said four steps could be taken to ease the illegal immigration problem:

Strengthen border security "because we can’t allow illegal people or drugs.”

Enforce the law. People who knowingly hire illegals should answer for it.
Work with Mexico and Haiti to deal with smugglers.

Create a path toward legal status for the illegal immigrants already in the U.S.
But Richardson is opposed to "amnesty,” the Palm Beach Daily News reports. He said aliens who have jobs or go to school, have no criminal record and are not a drain on public resources could attain legal status.

"What’s the alternative? Are you going to deport them?” Richardson said. "You can’t find them.”

The governor – who is considered a contender for the Democratic nomination for president in 2008 – also decried "too much” partisanship in Congress. And he advised Democrats: "Don’t just be critical. The country needs unity. It’s tired of gridlock. We need to have answers. We’re capable of doing better.”

Can't find them? He must not be looking, because they're everywhere.

Maybe if you stepped outside your gated community for more than 5 minutes and took your nose out of the clouds you'd be able to find them. It's funny how the politicans claim they can't find them, but us common folk could find them in about 5 seconds.
