Man Shot, Killed at U.S.-Mexico Border

When a man crossing into the U.S. illegally struck a U.S. Customs and Border Protection agent with rocks, a second agent fired his gun, killing the man.

Two agents called for help from San Diego police saying they were being attacked with rocks and sticks near the border fence line around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Investigators said the incident involved three people crossing the border fence east of Dairy Mart Road near the San Yisdro Port of Entry.

A second agent was called in for backup when an agent spotted the group crossing through a hole in the fence.

Two suspects fled back into Mexico through the opening but agents caught a third suspect who resisted arrest officials said.

During the scuffle, another suspect started throwing rocks and a piece wood with nails at the agents from the other side of the fence, striking one of the agents.

As the suspect began to throw another large rock at the agents, the first Border Patrol Agent fired his service weapon at a suspect, striking him once police said.

The unidentified suspect then fell back across the fence, landing on the Mexico side police said.

The suspect in the agents’ custody was arrested.

The agent who fired the shots is a 3-year-veteran of the U.S. Border Patrol according to a police news release. The second agent who was injured during the incident was treated at a local hospital and released.

U.S. officers trying to arrest border crosser assaulted by rocks, spiked piece of wood

SAN YSIDRO — A Border Patrol agent shot and killed a man who was trying to enter the country from Mexico Tuesday night during a fight that left another agent injured.

The agent spotted three men who were crossing at the border fence east of Dairy Mart Road just before 7:30 p.m. and called for assistance, San Diego police homicide Lt. Ernie Herbert said.

When a second agent arrived they tried to arrest the trio and two of them fled back into Mexico through an opening in the fence, Herbert said.

Agents caught the third man who resisted arrest and started to fight.

As the struggle ensued one of the other men leaned over the top of the fence and hurled large rocks and a piece of wood with nails sticking out of it at the agents, Herbert said.

The piece of wood hit one of them in the head, the lieutenant said.

As the man began to throw another rock the other agent opened fire, hitting him once. He fell back into Mexico and died at the scene, Herbert said.

The man involved in the scuffle was arrested.

The agent who opened fire has been with the force for three years. Police have not released his name nor the names of the men.

The agent who was hit with the board was treated at a hospital and released, police said.

I wonder what kind of hell awaits this poor BP agent from the DOJ. Will he be put through the ringer like Ramos and Compean? I hope not.

I think I have known my whole life not to throw rocks at ANYONE, especially law enforcement..

What are they teaching these people down in Mexico? Are they teaching them ANYTHING of value really or just to hate Americans and how to invade the U S, make excuses, and steal from Americans? Oh, and how to bring poisons into the U S (aka drugs)

Waiting for the Prez of Mexico to cry racism.

Just heard about this on the radio. Thank goodness the agent is ok. These kind of stories always fill us with concern. These agents should feel our government will do all it can to back them up but we've seen too many situations where they do the opposite.

U.S. Border Agent Fatally Shoots Man Near San Diego

SAN DIEGO -- A Border Patrol agent on Tuesday shot and killed a man at the U.S.-Mexico border who threatened to strike another agent with a concrete slab, a spokesman said.

Two men, presumably Mexican, assaulted two Border Patrol agents after crossing the border illegally about one mile west of San Diego's San Ysidro port of entry, Border Patrol spokesman Steven Pitts said.

One of the men climbed the border fence around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday and was about to throw the large slab when an agent fired an unknown number of shots, Pitts said. He was pronounced dead in Mexico.

Tijuana, Mexico, police identified the victim as Jose Alfredo Yanez, 40, and said he was shot at least twice in his body and once in the head.

The other migrant returned safely to Mexico.

One of the Border Patrol agents was kicked in the face and taken to a hospital for injuries that were not life threatening, Pitts said.

Kevin Keenan, executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union in San Diego and Imperial counties said the death raises troubling questions, partly because the suspects were fleeing.

"It doesn't meet the most basic humanitarian standards when someone is fleeing and doesn't pose a threat to the safety of others," he said.

Keenan questioned whether firing a gun was a disproportionate use of force "to stop rock throwers."San Diego police will lead the investigation into the shooting.

TV 10 news San Diego just said that the dead illegal alien, Jose Alfredo Yanex,40, was a know smuggler with several past arrest.
