They allegedly had a small device that would block the frequency of alarm systems at retail stores, allowing the trio to carry stolen items right out of the store. Another electronic device allowed the trio to quickly conceal the license plate of the alleged getaway van, according to police.

But the trio’s gadgets were no match for a retired Cobb County police officer, who noticed a man and woman acting suspiciously inside an Acworth Best Buy, police said Monday. The former officer then called police as he followed the trio’s van until responding officers arrived, according to Capt. Mark Cheatham with Acworth police. Two men and a woman were arrested after investigators found $1,700 worth of electronics inside the van, along with $7,000 cash.

Police also found assorted devices to help the suspects with their thefts, such as tools used by stores to deter thieves, Cheatham said.

Krzysztof Dolinski 39, Marzena Waskowska 46, and Jan Jodlowski, 51, were all arrested at the scene Thursday and charged with multiple offenses, including shoplifting, possession of tools for a crime and trespassing, according to police. Investigators believe the three may be linked to other thefts, Cheatham said.

All three suspects presented Canadian passports, according to police. But the three were denied bond and are being held on possible immigration violations, booking records showed.

Anyone with information on the case or the suspects is asked to contact the Acworth police Criminal Investigations Division at 770-974-1232.
