The foiled smuggling attempt happened Tuesday at 11 p.m. near the Golden Acorn Casino in Boulevard.

Agents said they spotted a Chevrolet Silverado pickup carrying a load of people concealed under a blanket in the truck's bed. Before agents could stop the truck, the driver made an abrupt move, entering the wrong way onto the Crestwood exit ramp to Interstate 8, according to officials.

At the same time, the driver and another person, suspected to be the foot guide, fled the truck. The vehicle, still in gear, began traveling westbound into oncoming traffic, authorities said.

An agent tried to jump into the moving car, but was dragged alongside it. A second agent used his car to block the careening pickup, according to the border patrol.

No one was injured, but the cars suffered minor damage.

Agents took seven Mexican adults and one child, as well as a suspected foot guide who had fled from the truck, into custody.

A CBP Air and Marine helicopter and a Border Patrol K-9 handler conducted a massive search for the driver. But it was the K-9 that located the fleeing driver, officials said, hiding in a rugged ravine.

The driver, a Mexican citizen, was taken into Border Patrol custody and is pending prosecution for immigrant smuggling.

    Yea for the good guys!
Very few people realise how often the Border Patrol risk their lives to save others.
It is a standard when smugglers think they will get caught to try and crash the vehicle knowing that BP will have to stay and help, they do it all the time.
This is how low these people are, they were willing to let seven people and a child die not to mention the others who may have crashed into them just to save themselves.
This smuggler is not going to be happy as he will be spending his time in a Mexican jail due to an agreement we have with Mexico.
