WASHINGTON -- Right after California Gov. Gavin Newsom was inaugurated into office today, he signed a series of executive orders on healthcare including making the Golden State the first in the nation to cover undocumented young adults under the state's Medicaid program.

Undocumented children and teens are already covered by Medi-Cal; the new directive follows the Affordable Care Act guideline of allowing most young adults to stay on their parents' plans until age 26.

Newsom's office called it a "major step toward universal coverage," along with other healthcare executive orders that comprise his first-year “California for All” agenda.

Those also include expanding the Medi-Cal pricing and purchasing for prescription drugs from 2 million beneficiaries to 13 million, with the eventual goal "to enable all Californians, including private purchasers, to join forces with public purchasers," and expanding Obamacare subsidies: the cutoff line has been individuals earning more than $48,000 a year or a family of four earning more than $98,000, but that will be bumped up to individuals earning up to $72,840 and families of 4 earning up to $150,600 with state funds filling the gap.

"To pay for increased financial help for families, the budget proposes fighting back against the federal government’s attempts to destroy the Affordable Care Act by reinstating the individual mandate at the state level," Newsom's office said.
The new governor also created the position of a California surgeon general "who will lead all Californians in addressing the root causes of serious health conditions, such as adverse childhood experiences and the social determinants of health."

Newsom sent a letter to President Trump and congressional leaders asking that they "amend federal law to enable States to apply for and receive Tranformational Cost and Universal Coverage Waivers, empowering California to truly innovate and to begin transformative reforms that provide the path to a single-payers health care system."

In California, Newsom said in his inaugural speech, "every person should have access to quality, affordable healthcare."

"Far-away judges and politicians may try to turn back our progress. But we will never waver in our pursuit of guaranteed health care for all Californians. We will use both our market power and our moral power to demand fairer prices for prescription drugs," he said. "We will stop stigmatizing mental health and start supporting it. And in California we will always protect a woman’s right to choose."

"...Everyone in California should have a good job with fair pay. Every child should have a great school and a teacher who is supported and respected. Every young person should be able to go to college without crushing debt or to get the training they need to compete and succeed. And every senior should be able to retire with security and live at home with dignity. That is the California Dream. Not to get rich quick or star on the big screen, but to work hard and share in the rewards. To leave a better future for our kids."

When does the Attorney General or Department of Justice PROSECUTE these Governors who harbor, aid and abet illegal aliens?

Employers are fined and jailed...why are these Governors above the law above everybody else?

They are not! Start serving them papers to appear in Federal Justice Court.

Protest Disrupts Pro-'Sanctuary' Governor's Oath Of Office: 'Blood Is On Your Hands!'

    "Shame on you!"

    January 8, 2019

What was supposed to be a time of pure celebration among supporters of the newly-elected Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom Monday was interrupted by a protester who clearly doesn't buy the Democrat's "sanctuary to all who seek it" rhetoric.

In a moment caught on video, Newsom, the 40th governor of California and successor to pro-"sanctuary" Democrat Jerry Brown, can be seen on stage with his wife and four kids ready to take the oath of office. As SF Gate notes, just as the judge begins to instruct the governor to raise his right hand, the "sanctuary" of the ceremony is disrupted.

"I object!" shouts a man, who reportedly had press credentials, from the audience. "Blood is on your hands!" he shouts. "Shame on you!"

The man is quickly located and escorted out, but not before he makes clear what he's protesting: the dire consequences of "sanctuary state" policies.

In an attempt to reset the festive mood, the audience begins chanting "Gavin! Gavin!" while the man continues to express his "objections."

Newsom, who made a point of underscoring his support of sanctuary policies that evening, did his best to ignore the unfortunate eruption of a dissenting voice.

Video of the moment was posted online by BBC Senior American Reporter Anthony Zurcher:

At the swearing-in ceremony, Newsom, the former mayor of sanctuary city San Francisco, underscored his support for the federal immigration authorities-defying policies, promising that California will offer "sanctuary to all who seek it."
Though he was careful not to utter Donald Trump's name, Newsom repeatedly hammered the president's attempts to address the illegal immigration crisis. "A wall that should never be built," he said, and children should not be "ripped away from their parents" suspected of crossing the border illegally, CBS Los Angeles reports.

The protester's condemnation of sanctuary policies, and Newsom's defense of them, comes just a few weeks after yet more innocent people were wounded and another died at the hands of an illegal immigrant who was shielded from federal immigration authorities in the state. The Daily Wire reports:

A twice-deported illegal immigrant who was protected by California's "sanctuary state" policies, which prevent law enforcement from holding criminal illegal immigrants requested by ICE, died Monday after going on a 24-hour "personal reign of terror" in which he killed a man, wounded several, robbed a store, carjacked a vehicle, and forced police to pursue him in a dangerous high-speed chase after engaging in a shootout with law enforcement.

Gustavo Garcia, 36, had a lengthy criminal record dating back to 2002. Along with his presence in the country illegally — for which he was deported twice, once in 2004 and again in 2014 — Garcia has faced drug and illegal weapons charges, serving 27 months in federal prison. Before his second deportation, Garcia also had three ICE violations, Fox News reports.

Despite his lengthy rap sheet, California protected Garcia from ICE. Just two days before his deadly "reign of terror," Garcia was held in Tulare County jail for 10 hours after he was arrested for being under the influence of a controlled substance.

(Natural News) California Governor Gavin Newsom and NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio are rolling out new “free” healthcare initiatives for illegal immigrants. While illegals may be able to access care in these areas free of charge, it will cost tax-paying Americans a pretty penny. Newsom reportedly struggled to explain how California would pay for the expansion of healthcare for illegals, which he signed into law by executive order earlier this month. The Golden State is already in financial ruin, and it is hard to believe spending more tax dollars is going to help in any way, shape or form.

In New York City, de Blasio’s “free” healthcare plan is expected to cost tax-payers upwards of $100 million. According to reports, the program will reach just 600,000 people who don’t have health insurance, and will include both legal citizens and illegal aliens.
California’s increasingly liberal, spendthrift policies have already devastated the state. Now, the leftists in power want to take even more from tax-payers, by forcing them to fund what will be an enormously expensive venture into the world of unsustainable liberal idealism.
Liberal politicians write checks their taxpayers can’t cash

Governor Newsom’s new budget reportedly “proposes increasing the size of the subsidies for families who already receive it, and it would make California the first state to make subsidies available to middle income families.” It will also “make California the first state in the nation to cover young undocumented adults through a state Medicaid program.” Under Newsom’s latest scheme, illegal immigrants will receive state-funded healthcare all the way up to age 26.
“Undocumented young adults should not have to worry about losing their health coverage when they turn 19,” the governor’s office stated.
What about the needs of actual American citizens? To them, the radical left says, “Kick rocks.”
Newsom has proposed a most atrocious plan to pay for the illegal immigrant healthcare scheme: Restore the individual mandate to buy health insurance. The governor is literally going to force the citizens of California to pay for his idiotic plan, by legally obligating them to buy something from the government. In other words, Newsom is willing to violate the rights of actual American citizens to benefit illegal aliens (and to secure votes for future elections, no doubt).
The former mayor of San Francisco may like to boast about his big plans, but the financial state of the city has a very different story to tell — like $10 billion in debt, crushing taxes and streets lined with human waste.
In New York City, things aren’t looking any better. The NYC Care plan touted by Mayor de Blasio is expected to provide healthcare access to 600,000 NYC residents who are without — including some 300,000 illegal immigrants. You can guess who’s picking up the tab.
The program is expected to cost $100 million in tax dollars, according to reports. Eric Phillips, de Blasio’s press secretary, stated over Twitter, “This is the city paying for direct comprehensive care (not just ERs) for people who can’t afford it, or can’t get comprehensive Medicaid — including 300,000 undocumented New Yorkers.”
In an interview with MSNBC, de Blasio bragged about the plan. “We’ll put the money in to make it work; it’s going to save us money down the line,” he insisted.
Government spending is out of control

It would seem that de Blasio and Newsom have forgotten that the money they are spending comes from taxpayers — people who’ve worked very hard to earn something. It’s easy to just throw money around when you aren’t actually the one earning it. Taxpayer dollars are not an infinite resource, though liberal politicians love to treat it as such. It is patently offensive that these politicians feel it is their right to spend taxpayer dollars on whatever they please. Thousands of American citizens live in poverty and are without the same “basic necessities” that Leftists are so hellbent on giving to illegal immigrants.
But daring to suggest that American politicians should be putting the United States first is now a “racist” or “xenophobic” thing to say — even though our legislators are supposedly elected to serve their citizens.
Regardless of your feelings about immigration, the spending of tax dollars on healthcare for non-citizens is, at the very least, a blatant case of government overreach. Elected or not, there is no doubt that government spending in the United States is out of control — at both the state and federal levels.
In 2013, then-Vice President Joe Biden and his staff reportedly spent over half a million dollars staying at a hotel for one night.
Politicians today are so enamored of spending tax payer dollars, Governor Newsom is planning on mandating his constituents buy healthcare so he can spend the money on something else.
Not only is that ludicrous, it ought to be considered unconstitutional. Coercing the population to buy something from the government through law is really no different than levying a tax against them. The fact that Newsom has suggested this as a reasonable solution to funding his illegal immigrant healthcare plan is a serious red flag. More, it’s a sign of what we can look forward to seeing from the American Left in the future: More taxes and more tyranny.
Illegal immigration has already proven itself to be very costly to American citizens. How much more do these politicians expect people to give?

You're absolutely right, how is this not aiding and abetting illegal immigrants?

Damn Trump, why did you fire Jeff Sessions! At least I know he was doing everything possible to fight the sanctuary states and cities. Now I'm not so sure the ball hasn't been dropped!

Give Bill Barr a chance. You know that he will be confirmed and he is a good pick.

This is from our friends at the ACLU..Perhaps Barr will be able to clean out all of the ACLU lawyers at the DOJ that were hired under Holder and send them back to their roots.

No Relief: William Barr Is as Bad as Jeff Sessions — if Not Worse

By David Cole, ACLU Legal Director
    DECEMBER 7, 2018 | 6:15 PM

Donald Trump’s nomination of William Barr to succeed Jeff Sessions as attorney general ought to raise alarm bells across the country. Barr is as bad as Sessions was on the full range of civil rights issues that fall with the Justice Department’s purview. And he’s a longstanding advocate of expansive executive power.

It’s almost certainly the latter view that attracted President Trump, whose own power is likely to be called into question should the Mueller investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election disclose wrongdoing at the top. But the Senate, who must confirm Barr, and the U.S. citizenry, who will have to live under him as the nation’s chief law enforcement officer, should be aware of the full range of threats he poses to constitutional law, civil rights, and civil liberties.

It’s worth reflecting on the Justice Department Barr would inherit.

Under Sessions’ leadership, it has become a force for injustice in virtually every important area of civil rights. Sessions was an aggressive defender of Trump’s cruel and inhuman family separation policy, the Muslim ban, and obstacles to asylum. He rolled back critical civil rights protections for LGBT persons. He opposed legislative efforts to reform the criminal justice system and directed federal prosecutors to file the harshest charges possible against criminal defendants, regardless of mitigating circumstances. He reversed the department’s position in voting rights cases, going from attacking to supporting voter suppression initiatives. And he sought to punish state and local governments that exercised their constitutional right to choose to leave federal immigration law enforcement to federal officials. Few attorney generals have done more to undermine the causes that the Justice Department is supposed to defend.

But Barr’s record, both in the Justice Department under George H.W. Bush and as a lawyer and lobbyist ever since, strongly suggests that we will see more of the same. If anything, Barr may be more effective at dismantling the department’s justice-serving mission than Sessions, because, unlike Sessions, he actually knows how the department works, having been deputy attorney general and attorney general from 1990-93.

In a nutshell, Barr has, like Sessions, supported aggressive anti-immigrant policies, opposed criminal justice reform, lauded intrusive surveillance of Americans, said Roe v. Wade should be overturned, and supported denying civil rights protections to transgender individuals. During his time in public life, he has defended the Muslim ban, Trump’s firing of FBI Director James Comey, and attacks on immigrant rights and free speech.

Here’s a quick rundown on all the ways William Barr should concern civil libertarians and the civil rights community.

    Criminal Justice

Barr, like Sessions before him, is caught in the time warp of “tough on crime” politics, even as the rest of the country has seen a bipartisan consensus emerge that views mass incarceration as a serious problem. While serving as attorney general, Barr wrote the introduction for a Justice Department report with the remarkable title, “The Case for More Incarceration.” Even as the United States led the world in per capita incarceration, Barr rejected arguments that we were locking up too many. He wrote, “The truth, however, is to the contrary; we are incarcerating too few criminals.”

His views have not evolved. He praised Jeff Sessions' opposition to Obama-era measures to reform local police department practices that jeopardized civil rights and civil liberties, and he also signed a letter opposing the Sentencing Reform and Corrections Act of 2015, which would have helped address the failed and discriminatory practices of mass incarceration. In 2015, Barr insisted, “Our system of justice is not broken.”

    Civil Rights and Abortion

One of the Justice Department’s most sacred responsibilities is to advance and protect civil rights. Yet Barr supported Sessions' rollbacks of civil rights, hailing him for reversing rules extending civil rights protections to transgender individuals. And he supported Sessions' siding with businesses that invoked religious beliefs to discriminate against gay and lesbian customers.

Barr is an unequivocal opponent of women’s right to choose when and whether to have a child. This is probably the single most important civil right for women. As numerous studies have found, if one cannot plan one’s family, one cannot be an equal member of the workforce. In his 1991 confirmation hearing, Barr said that Roe v. Wade should be overruled: “I do not believe the right to privacy extends to abortion… I believe Roe v. Wade should be overruled.”

    Immigrants’ Rights

Barr was a strong proponent of the George H.W. Bush administration’s illegal program of interdicting Haitian refugees on the high seas, detaining them at Guantanamo Bay, and denying them access to lawyers. Approximately 300 of the refugees had HIV, and Barr created a separate detention camp for them. The program was challenged in court, where the government was ordered to provide access to attorneys and ultimately required to bring the HIV-positive Haitians to the United States for treatment, as their conditions at Guantanamo were deplorable. But throughout, Barr was a strong advocate for a policy that set the stage for the treatment of Guantanamo detainees during the war on terror. Here, too, Barr has not evolved.

He has strongly backed Trump and Sessions’ cruel approach to immigration, praising them for attacking “the rampant illegality that riddled our immigration system” when court decisions suggest that the real “rampant illegality” stems from the Trump administration itself. He defended the legality of Trump’s first Muslim ban, saying that he saw “no plausible grounds for disputing the order’s lawfulness.” That ban was struck down by multiple courts. And even Trump finally abandoned it on the advice of his lawyers, who saw that there were indeed many plausible grounds for challenging it and urged Trump to substitute a narrower and more defensible ban.

    Surveillance

As attorney general, Barr ordered telephone companies “to turn over lists of all phone calls from the USA” to dozens of countries under a Drug Enforcement Administration program that was a precursor to the bulk phone metadata program disclosed by Edward Snowden and repealed by Congress in the 2015 USA Freedom Act. Later, Barr became general counsel for Verizon and reportedly helped coordinate the telecommunication industry’s successful efforts to lobby Congress for immunity from private lawsuits for aiding the government’s illegal warrantless surveillance programs.

    Free Speech and Net Neutrality

Barr is also no friend to free speech. He testified in favor of a constitutional amendment outlawing flag desecration, which would have directly undermined First Amendment free speech rights of Americans. The Supreme Court twice ruled flag desecration laws unconstitutional; Barr’s solution was to amend the First Amendment. More recently, he was an outspoken advocate againstnet neutrality, a critical policy to ensure equal access for all to the Internet.

    Executive Power

Finally, and no doubt most important to President Trump, Barr has long been a staunch defender of expansive executive power.

In a 1989 memo, he called on the president to resist “congressional incursions” into the president’s appointment power and advocated “vigorous opposition” to limitations on the president’s power to unilaterally remove subordinate officials — precisely the issue that would be presented should Trump try to fire Special Counsel Robert Mueller. And as a citizen, Barr defended Trump’s firing of James Comey, justifying it on the obviously pretextual grounds regarding the former FBI director’s handling of the investigation of Hillary Clinton’s private email server, even though the president himself admitted he fired Comey because of the Russia investigation.

Barr’s view of executive power is extraordinary and would lead to extraordinary results. Neil Kinkopf, a former Justice Department official and constitutional scholar, has argued that Barr’s 1989 memo laid down “the theoretical and strategic foundations” for the George W. Bush’s assertion of “the president’s power to authorize torture.”

So from women’s rights and criminal justice to surveillance and free speech, William Barr would be “Sessions-The Sequel” if confirmed as the next attorney general. But it’s worse than that. Barr would not be recused from overseeing Mueller’s investigation, and he has already strongly condemned the very limits on removal that thus far have protected Mueller’s independence.

The Senate Judiciary Committee must scrutinize Barr’s record carefully and demand firm commitments from him on the independence of the Mueller investigation and the central duty of the Justice Department to enforce civil rights if he is to be trusted as our nation’s highest law enforcement officer.

4 Things to Know About William Barr, Trump's Pick to Replace Jeff Sessions

Barr, who was a U.S. attorney general under President George H.W. Bush, currently serves as of counsel at Kirkland & Ellis.

By Ellis Kim | December 07, 2018 at 10:29 AM

William Barr (Courtesy photo).William Barr, the conservative Washington, D.C., attorney who headed the Justice Department in the early 1990s, will be President Donald Trump’s pick for U.S. attorney general.

The president made the announcement in comments to the press Friday morning. Barr, who was a former U.S. attorney general under President George H.W. Bush, currently serves as of counsel at Kirkland & Ellis. He will be tapped once again to head the Justice Department in a fraught time for the agency, which oversees special counsel Robert Mueller III’s probe into Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. presidential election.
Trump said he hopes the confirmation process moves quickly.

“I’ve seen very good things about him even over the last day or so when people thought it might be Bill Barr,” Trump said.

If he is confirmed, Barr will replace acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker, whose own installation atop the Justice Department has generated much controversy and is currently the subject of litigation. Barr’s nomination would have to be confirmed by the U.S. Senate, which could take months.

Before Barr served as attorney general, he was in the No. 2 spot as deputy attorney general and also headed the DOJ’s Office of Legal Counsel. Here are some other things to know about Barr:

He has served as of counsel at Kirkland since 2017. Since he left the Justice Department in the early ‘90s, Barr has moved around the private sector, serving in top roles for corporations and law firms. In 1994, upon leaving the DOJ, he worked as general counsel for GTE Corp., the telephone giant that merged with Bell Atlantic to form Verizon in 2000. Barr served as Verizon’s general counsel until late 2008, when he left for a brief stint at Kirkland & Ellis in 2009. Shortly after, he was named to Time Warner Inc.’s board of directors. Barr rejoined Kirkland in 2017, where he has advised major companies like Caterpillar.

He was a big fan of the previous occupant of the AG office. In a recent Washington Post column with two other former U.S. attorneys general, Barr praised former AG Jeff Sessions’ tenure at DOJ. Sessions resigned from his role in November under pressure from the Trump White House. Writing with former AGs Ed Meese and Michael Mukasey, Barr praised Sessions’ handling of controversial issues like law enforcement and immigration. On the topic of law enforcement’s relationship with African-Americans, the op-ed authors criticized the Obama administration, writing that it had “undermined police morale, with the spreading ‘Ferguson effect’ causing officers to shy away from proactive policing out of fear of prosecution.”

Barr opposed one of the Justice Department’s biggest actions last year: Its antitrust lawsuit to block the AT&T and Time Warner merger. Court filings show that Barr, as a Time Warner board member, attended a November 2017 meeting with Justice Department officials who were preparing a legal challenge to the merger. Later, as the legal fight brewed in Washington, D.C., federal court, Barr wrote a declaration about that meeting, disputingthe Justice Department’s claims that Paul Cappuccio, Time Warner’s lawyer, had threatened retaliation against Makan Delrahim, the Justice Department’s top antitrust official. “No reasonable person could have misinterpreted Mr. Cappuccio’s comments as a threat that the companies would personally attack Mr. Delrahim or anyone else in the event of litigation,” Barr said in his declaration. If Barr is confirmed as the AG, he would be Delrahim’s boss.

Barr has sounded off on the Mueller probe, as well other controversial but cornerstone issues for the Trump administration. Speaking to the New York Times in November 2017, Barr weighed in on the president’s calls to investigate his political rival, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. “There is nothing inherently wrong about a president calling for an investigation,” he said, adding: “Although an investigation shouldn’t be launched just because a president wants it, the ultimate question is whether the matter warrants investigation.” Barr, according to the Times, said there was more of a basis for the Justice Department to probe the Uranium One deal, a cause célèbre for anti-Clinton conservatives, than for its investigation of any possible links between the Trump campaign and Russia. “To the extent it is not pursuing these matters, the department is abdicating its responsibility,” he told the Times.

Barr's not there yet. It's Whitaker I'm currently concerned with. I just hope he's not dropping all the balls Sessions was juggling.

I still think firing Jeff Sessions was a huge mistake.
