Challengers to employer sanctions law ask to be heard again

Challengers to employer sanctions law ask to be heard again
    Reported by: Associated Press
    Last Update: 4:38 pm

A federal appeals court that upheld Arizona's employer sanctions law is being asked by groups challenging the law to hear the case again.

Jonathan Weissglass, an attorney seeking to overturn the law on behalf of civil rights and business groups, says the challengers have asked a three-judge panel of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to reconsider their arguments.

The three judges upheld the law in mid-September. Weissglass also asked the full court to consider the case. No decision has been made on his requests.

The challengers call the law an unconstitutional attempt by the state to regulate immigration.

Supporters say it's needed because the federal government hasn't adequately enforced a similar federal law.

True. States cannot enact laws that contradict the federal standard---such as is being done with sanctuary policies. But there is nothing wrong with cooperatively upholding them. Uncle Sam can't be everywhere!

Can't they adopt a federal law?

I do know that cities and counties can adopt a state law and enforce it.
At least they could in Texas some years ago.

They HAVE read it, and interpret it to mean exactly what THEY want it to say.

The rest of us don't figure into the equation of having any rights.
