Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin said that as long as Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump keeps supporting his plan to build a Mexican border wall, his supporters will stick with him.

"Thank God he's still preaching that, because if he were not, then there would be a huge erosion of support."

During an appearance on Fox News' "The O'Reilly Factor," Palin, the 2008 Republican vice-presidential nominee, said "Trump didn't garner a lot of enthusiastic support by being soft on anything, but by having a steel spine and doing what he knows the majority of Americans want, and that is to put a stop to illegal immigration."

Trump has faced criticism for appearing to step back from the plans he had announced to combat illegal immigration if he becomes president, such as to build a wall on the Mexican border.

Jeb Bush, who campaigned against Trump for the Republican nomination, said that Trump's viewpoints keep changing. "I can only say that whatever his views are this morning, they might change this afternoon, and they were different than they were last night, and they'll be different tomorrow," Bush said in a WABC interview.

Trump resisted the idea that he was changing his stance. He told CNN's Anderson Cooper, "There's no path to legalization unless people leave the country. When they come back in, they can start paying taxes."

Palin expresses her support for Trump and Republican issues in appearances and on her social media, including a Facebook post in which she called Democrats "leftist zealots who are out for blood and never fight fair."
