Ex-Sheriff's detention officer faces deportation in sex crime

A former Maricopa County Sheriff's detention officer who developed inappropriate relationships with teenage girls faces deportation to Canada after he serves a year in jail.

Dominic Boulter, 52, of Sun City, was sentenced July 9 for luring a minor for sexual exploitation and unlawful age misrepresentation, according to Maricopa County Superior Court documents. Under the sentence, Boulter, a Canadian citizen, will not be allowed to stay in or return illegally to the U.S. if he is deported or processed through voluntary departure.

Immigrations and Customs Enforcement has placed a detainer on Boulter, which means he will be released to ICE after he completes his jail term, said Vincent Picard, spokesman for the Phoenix ICE office. The federal agency will determine whether to deport Boulter, who is on lifetime probation.

He pleaded guilty on April 26, court documents state. An additional charge of luring a minor for sexual exploitation and four charges of furnishing obscene items to a minor were dismissed under the plea agreement.

Boulter was arrested Aug. 6 at the Avondale Sheriff's Office substation, 920 E. Van Buren St., records show.

Between Nov. 19, 2008, and May 11, 2009, Boulter used PhoneZoo, a mobile content-sharing website, to meet teenage girls, some as young as 13, according to documents. He lied about his age, saying he was 15, 27 and 32, and engaged in sexual conversations and exchanged naked photos with the girls through text messages and e-mail.

None of the girls lived in Arizona, a sheriff's spokesman said.

Boulter worked for the Sheriff's Office from May 13, 2002, until Nov. 25, 2009.
