Second suspect arrested in Arlington beheading, double slaying

BY RYAN OSBORNE AND DEANNA BOYD
    SEPTEMBER 07, 2017 5:02 PM

ARLINGTON A second suspect wanted in the killing of two people who were found buried in a shallow grave in Arlington — including one with a severed head — was arrested at a home in Fort Worth on Thursday, police announced.

Hector “El Cholo” Acosta-Ojeda, 28, had been described by police as armed and “extremely dangerous.”

Investigators received a tip and then tracked Acosta-Ojeda to the Fort Worth home, where U.S. marshals arrested him without incident about 3 p.m., said Lt. Chris Cook, police spokesman.
Further details about his arrest were not released.

Iris Chirinos, 17, was identified as one of the people found buried in the shallow grave behind a home in the 200 block of Burton Drive in Arlington on Monday. Chirinos died from multiple gunshot wounds, the Tarrant County medical examiner’s office ruled.

Authorities have not released the identity of a male whose body was found buried along with Chirinos, a former Sam Houston High School student who dropped out in April.
Witnesses have indicated to police that the body is that of Chirinos’ boyfriend, known as “Diablo.”

Police uncovered the bodies two days after a severed head and a note were found near a walking trail in a wooded area west of East Sanford and Truman streets.
The head is believed to be Diablo’s.

The sign read “La Raza Se Resreta y Faltan 4.” Loosely translated, the message appears to be, “The race, or group, must be respected and there’s only four left.”

Mariano Sanchez-Pina, 18, was arrested and jailed Saturday on suspicion of murder in the case. He was transferred to the Tarrant County Jail on Thursday, where his bail was set at $50,000 on a murder charge and $1,000 on a drug possession charge.

Acosta-Ojeda was likely to be booked into the Arlington Jail later Thursday, Cook said.

Machete, drugs and money: Gruesome details emerge in double slaying

    BY DEANNA BOYD

    SEPTEMBER 08, 2017 4:40 PM

ARLINGTON Money and drugs were behind the savage machete attack and fatal shooting of a 27-year-old man whose severed head was found last weekend along a walking trail in Arlington, police said Friday.

Erick “Diablo” Zelaya died from multiple gunshot wounds, the Tarrant County medical examiner’s office ruled Friday.

His 17-year-old girlfriend, Iris Chirinos, was also killed by gunshots and found buried along with the remainder of Zelaya’s body in a shallow grave behind an Arlington home.

Lt. Christopher Cook, an Arlington police spokesman, said investigators have found no indications that Chirinos was involved in the dispute, but may have just been at the house with her boyfriend at the wrong time.

“We definitely believe it’s all intertwined, entangled with illicit drugs,” Cook said. “We do believe it comes back to that nexus, related to money and drugs.”

Hector “Cholo” Acosta-Ojeda, 28, and Mariano Sanchez-Pina, 18, remained jailed on suspicion of murder in connection with the case.

Acosta-Ojeda, a Mexican national who Cook said was reportedly in the U.S. on some type of visa, was arrested Thursday at a Fort Worth home after a several-day search by Arlington police.

Bail for him is set at $1 million with his warrant noting that he is a flight risk, a non-U.S. citizen, and that “multiple victims” are possible.

    Leg, foot also discovered

The gruesome case began Sept. 2 with the discovery of Zelaya’s severed head near a man-made walking trail in a wooded area west of Truman and East Sanford Street. A sign next to the head read La Raza Se Resreta y Faltan 4” or, loosely translated, “The race, or group, must be respected and there’s only four left.”

That same day, Sanchez-Pina was arrested on an unrelated warrant and later gave homicide detectives information about the severed head they’d found.

Sanchez-Pina told investigators that a man he knew only as “Diablo” had been murdered and buried behind a home in the 200 block of Burton Drive.

Arlington police executed a search warrant at the Burton house Sept. 3, where they found a machete, possible blood evidence and an area of ground recently disturbed in the back yard.

A subsequent search of the back yard by the Tarrant County medical examiner’s office uncovered a human leg and foot believed to be Zelaya’s. Through additional excavation, officials eventually found the remainder of Zelaya’s body and that of Chirinos.

Chirinos’s body remained intact, Cook said.

Sanchez-Pina asked to speak to homicide Detective Grant Gildon again on Sept. 3, telling the investigator that he witnessed Acosta-Ojeda attack Zelaya, according to the affidavit. Previously, Sanchez-Pina had told Gildon that he had arrived at the house on Burton to find Zelaya already dead.

In his latest interview, however, Sanchez-Pina claimed Acosta-Ojeda had previously told him that he believed Zelaya had stolen money from him.

‘Hit him in the back of the head’

Sanchez-Pina said he had gone to the Burton residence and was surprised to see both Zelaya and Acosta-Ojeda there.

Sanchez-Pina said he was standing on the front porch, talking to Zelaya who was standing in the home’s living room, when he witnessed Acosta-Ojeda attack Zelaya from behind.

“Sanchez describes seeing the suspect (Acosta-Ojeda) walk up behind the victim and hit him in the back of the head with an object he believed to be a machete,” Gildon wrote in the arrest warrant affidavit.
After seeing Zelaya fall to the floor, Sanchez-Pina told police he ran away. He said Acosta-Ojeda later called him and instructed him to come back to the house, the affidavit states.

When he returned, Acosta-Ojeda was digging a hole in the back yard, Sanchez-Pina told police.

Cook said Acosta-Ojeda is cooperating with investigators.

“He has not denied his involvement,” Cook said.

Cook said investigators are still not certain of the sequence of Zelaya’s attack, nor the validity of the statements given by Sanchez-Pina, who was formally charged with murder Thursday in connection with Zelaya’s death.

Zelaya, believed to be from El Salvador, had known Acosta-Ojeda for years and had lived with the man off and on, Cook said.

Cook said the investigation has revealed no connections between the case and the cartel or MS-13 gang.

Huge announcement!!! @ArlingtonPD Fugitive Team has arrested Hector "El Cholo" Acosta-Ojeda in connection with double murder in Fort Worth
    4:29 PM - Sep 7, 2017

Police were called to the 800 block of East Sanford Street, near North Collins Street, just after 2:30 p.m. Saturday after someone reported finding remains in the woods near a creek.

According to a search-warrant affidavit, authorities found a man's head next to a sign that read "La Raza Se Resreta y Faltan 4" — which roughly translates to "The race must be respected and four are left." Some Spanish speakers use the word "raza" to refer to Hispanics as a group.

The head appeared to have been severed by "a large knife or sharp object," police said.

"We believe it was purposely placed in a manner to where it would be discovered by someone walking in the area," Lt. Chris Cook, a police spokesman, told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

    Mariano Sanchez
    (Arlington Police Department)

While police were investigating, they were notified that a man under arrest on outstanding warrants — 18-year-old Mariano Sanchez — claimed to have information about the remains.

    Differing accounts

Sanchez told police he had been taken by several men, tied up and forced to watch someone else be stabbed to death.

According to the affidavit, Sanchez said that a man he knew as "Cholo" had been threatening to kill him over an allegation of stolen money, and that on Friday he and another man, "Diablo," had shown up at Sanchez's home. He didn't open the door and they left.
Sanchez said Cholo called him later Friday and told him to come to his house in the 200 block of Burton Drive or be killed. When Sanchez arrived, he saw a dead man — Diablo — on the living-room floor and left in fear.

But Cholo called him and told him to return, he said, and when he did he saw Cholo digging a large hole in the backyard while others watched.

Other witnesses, however, gave conflicting accounts of the slaying.

According to the affidavit, one witness said Sanchez mentioned having to leave an earlier meeting because an unknown man "was going to kill somebody and he was going to record it."

Another witness told police that a visibly upset Sanchez told her he was forced to cut off the victim's arms.

Police were also told that Cholo — who had a tattoo on his arm that read "el mas odiado," or "the most hated" — had been showing people pictures of the victim's head and claiming that he killed Diablo as well as Diablo's 17-year-old girlfriend.
When police showed Sanchez a photo lineup, he identified 28-year-old Acosta-Ojeda as the man he knew as Cholo.

Sanchez later told officers that he had actually seen Cholo and Diablo talking at Cholo's home. Cholo then walked up behind Diablo and hit him on the back of the head with a machete, the affidavit says.
    More remains

On Sunday, police searched the home on Burton Drive and found a machete and blood evidence, the affidavit says. Buried in the backyard they found human remains belonging to two people.

Sanchez, 18, was arrested on a charge of murder, as well as burglary and drug charges. He was being held Thursday at the Tarrant County jail, with bail set at $51,000.

    Iris Chirinos
    (via GoFundMe)

The Tarrant County medical examiner identified the remains as those of Iris Chirinos, 17, and Erick Zelaya, 27.
Both died from multiple gunshot wounds.

Chirinos had attended Sam Houston High School in Arlington before dropping out this spring, the Star-Telegram reported.

Police believe the victims were targeted and that the slayings may be drug-related.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help Chirinos' family with funeral costs.

Staff writers Claire Z. Cardona and Julieta Chiquillo contributed to this report.

Get these people out of here once and for all! Living in a single home property, tree lined, grass lawn, driveway parking - send them back to the filthy living they know all to well and give that home to an American citizen.

This article denotes the amount of monies obama asked for and got from congress for UACs (probably what these creeps are) We are paying them a high monthly payment plus they have the "refugee" status which will allow them to bring their families. They need to go home instead - there are hundreds of thousands of them in the USA. This mess needs to be overturned.

Obama budgets $17,613 for every new illegal minor, more than Social Security retirees get

by Paul Bedard | May 2, 2016, President Obama has budgeted $17,613 for each of the estimated 75,000 Central American teens expected to illegally cross into the United States this year, $2,841 more than the average annual Social Security retirement benefit, according to a new report.

The total bill to taxpayers: $1.3 billion in benefits to "unaccompanied children," more than double what the federal government spent in 2010, according to an analysis of the administration's programs for illegal minors from the Center for Immigration Studies. The average Social Security retirement benefit is $14,772.

The report notes that the president's budget, facing congressional approval, includes another $2.1 billion for refugees, which can include the illegals from Central America, mostly Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador.

What's more, the administration is also spending heavily on a program with the United Nations to help the illegal minors avoid the dangerous trip by declaring them refugees and handing them a plane ticket to the U.S. where, once here, they get special legal status.
The report, titled "Welcoming Unaccompanied Alien Children to the United States," is a deep dive into the administration's evolving efforts to let hundreds of thousands of mostly 16- and 17-year-old males settle in the country.

It said that most of the undocumented minors do not qualify for refugee status or are even in any danger in their native countries. Instead, they are seeking to unify with their family members, commonly parents in the United States illegally.

The report cited Department of Health and Human Services data showing the trend. "New data," said CIS, "shows that 80 percent of the 71,000 Central American children placed between February 2014 and September 2015 were released to sponsors who are in the United States illegally."

Author Nayla Rush suggested that the administration's Central American Refugee/Parole Program with the United Nations that declares minors refugees could have the effect of giving legal status to their illegal parents once in the U.S.

"Children will be able to qualify for refugee status and then be flown to the United States. As a reminder, refugees receive automatic legal status and are required to apply for a green card within their first year following arrival. They can apply for citizenship five years from the date of entry.

"Since parents from Central America illegally present in the United States could not benefit from the CAM program and sponsor their children, perhaps the reverse can take place with children admitted under this new version of the refugee program. Children, acquiring legal status followed by naturalization by the time they reach adulthood, could indeed sponsor their parents," wrote Rush.

Obama was disgusting and a very bad president - but he can't be blamed entirely for the illegal immigration debacle.

George Bush is the one who put the big 'Welcome' sign on the border and actively encouraged, worked for and supported the illegals. He's the one who pushed for homes HUD for homes for 'minorities' (who could that have been). He said even if they didn't have good credit, or money for a downpayment, 'we' (wonder who that could be) would help them.

Yes, Obama could have done something and didn't, but George Bush is the one who filled this country with illegals, gave them the benefits, etc.

Of course, neither George Bush nor Obama may have been able to do anything even if they wanted. Just look at the situation now. Will President Trump be able to do anything.

And don't forget George Bush lied us into never ending wars.

Maybe Obama second, after George Bush.
