SEN. CHUCK SCHUMER (D-NY): Immigration Reform Is Not Like Obamacare

Schumer: Immigration Reform Is Not Like Obamacare

    Video at the Page Link:

SEN. CHUCK SCHUMER (D-NY): The only other point I want to make is this: some are comparing this bill to the president's health care bill. Nothing could be further from the truth. I supported the presidentís health care bill, and I still do, but that was basically a Democratic effort. It had no Republican support. McCain and Schumer would not be standing here together in favor of the ACA. And this bill has very broad support. Itís bipartisan, it has the support-- on the healthcare bill business and labor were split. Business and labor are united here. We have evangelicals, we have high-tech, we have agriculture, meaning both growers and workers. So to say that this is just like the presidentís health care billÖ

Nothing could be further from the truth. This is just what America wants us to do. Work together in a bipartisan way to move forward. So those extreme opponents keep coming up with new reasons to oppose the bill. One of their latest is: oh, our bill is a thousand pages and complicated. Well, from what I understand, the bills they are putting together, and they only have half of them done, are already 500 pages. So, the bill they have on border security and the bill they have on internal enforcement and the bill they have on high-tech and the bill they have on agriculture, theyíre gonna be a whole lot of pages too. Itís whatís in those pages thatís important. Whatís in those pages is supported by the American people. Overwhelmingly. Democrats, Republicans, business, labor, the whole religious community. So, weíre moving forward. And immigration reform, I think, has a strong future this year here in Washington.
