Dem Predicts GOP Will Pass Dream Act By Midterms

    Sept. 9, 2017

Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.), who serves as a whip within House Democratic leadership, says he suspects Congress will pass legislation protecting immigrants who came into the country illegally as children.

Gallego told The Hill that Congress would likely pass the Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors (DREAM) Act because vulnerable Republicans can't afford to alienate Latino voters ahead of next year's midterm elections.

"I hope that Speaker [Paul] Ryan [(R-Wis.)] and Senate Majority Leader [Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.)] will listen to the majority of members of Congress and senators that are right now saying that they want to pass the DREAM Act," Gallego said.

"Going into an election year, the last thing you want to see is a galvanized Latino voter community as well as people that are not Latino but are generally supportive of the DREAM Act."

The DREAM Act is a bipartisan bill first introduced in 2001 that would include protections for immigrants brought into the U.S. illegally as children as long as they meet certain requirements.

Democrats are threatening to attach the DREAM Act to any must-pass legislation this fall in the wake of President Trump's decision Tuesday to eliminate the Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, which shielded young undocumented immigrants from deportation.

Better get to work on the Congress, everyone. Trump is out of this at this point. It's all Congress from here on.

The Presdient of the United States is never out because without his signature nothing passes without a veto proof majority. If something like the Dream Act gets out of the U.S. Congress, Trump said he'll sign it. Trump will always be part of the equation.

Oh, I just realized you're trying to take the heat of Trump since he's pushing for and has promised a signature on a DACA type amnesty.

No, not really. I have no problem with you or anyone else, myself included attacking Trump for suggesting he would sign a DACA Amnesty or Dreamer Bill, he's never actually said that, he used different terms, but it's fair to assume that's what he is suggesting. Whether he would actually sign the bill they deliver would depend on the bill, I'm sure. Many reasons why such a bill would be something he would veto. But he shouldn't even be suggesting he would sign such a bill of any type to "fix it" to begin with. He just needs to shut the fvck up about what Congress does on that, because they should in fact do .... NOTHING.

My point is simply Trump has done what we asked him to do, which is end all the DACA programs, DACA Expansion, DAPA and DACA 2012. Now it's time for Congress to do what we've asked them to do which is ignore, committee kill, bury or vote down any and all amnesty bills of any type for anyone.
