Sen. McCaskill Speaks With Border Patrol on Illegal Immigrants

    March 23, 2017 10:44 AM

(video can be viewed at the source link)

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – Senator Claire McCaskill says it’s hard to deter illegal immigration in part because of businesses that knowingly hire illegal immigrants. Her comments came during a senate hearing with customs and border protection, border patrol and immigration and customs enforcement agents.

“If you start taking businesses to court and actually punishing them for doing this, it is going to clean this up faster than all the border agents in the world,” she says.

McCaskill is the top-ranking Democrat on the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.

“Why aren’t we prosecuting them? Why aren’t we going after the employers who are knowingly cheating, they are creating an unfair competitive advantage,” she says.

Should there be a form...connected with the business when they file their taxes that they have to fill out that names and confirms each Employee has been E-verified. Severe penalties if fraud has been committed when they are caught?

She makes an excellent point. Go after the businesses full throttle. These minimal little fines being assessed aren't even enough to make the businesses blink.

Sen. McCaskill (D-Mo.) certainly isn't one of my favorites in Congress. However, to her credit she was one of only four Democrats in the Senate that voted against the the comprehensive immigration reform bill they tried to pass on us during the Bush administration.

There's an I-9 form they sign when they're hired. That's what the feds check when they do company audits. That's when they find the illegals and call in ICE for raids.

((((((“If you start taking businesses to court and actually punishing them for doing this, it is going to clean this up faster than all the border agents in the world,” she says.))))))))

    Absolutely!!!!!!!!!1

Now, I don't know what e-Verify actually does - or what forms an employer fills out, or what is being done.

The apparent fact is - whatever is being done - isn't working.

Just my cynicism, but I think whatever is in place to weed out illegal workers is just a work around for the employer - plausible deniability - in other words.

Again, whatever is in place, isn't working.

Employers know - they also now know they aren't going to be punished. That needs to change.

Yes, go after the employer - cut off the jobs and they will leave.

They could catch a lot if they investigated the 'Manpower', temp agencies. They provide degree of separation for the employers.

At the same time enforce our local laws, traffic, zoning, etc.

President Trump would have a lot less work to do.

Some businesses are using E-verify, but most still aren't. It is not mandatory. We need a nation-wide mandatory E-verify. I'd like to see a mandatory E-verify bill come to the floor for a vote. I'd dare any congress critter to vote "no" on it! E-verify has been packaged in a couple bills but it has never came up on a stand alone bill. I think many of our congresspersons are afraid to buck big business because that's where a lot of their campaign money comes from. It's disgraceful.

Again, even if some employers are using e-Verify - it apparently isn't working. There must be something that gives employers an out.

There needs to be a way for employers to actually check with SS and get all the details on a SS#. If the info doesn't fit the prospective employee - then ICE should be notified and the person should be checked out and deported.

What we have isn't working - it just isn't -

Also, the IRS needs to begin checking 1099's against filed returns and those SS#'s need to be checked. These people are getting SS#'s somewhere and I'm assuming it either has to be through some form of lying to the government or they are using #'s of others.

It really isn't that complicated - or 'complex' as politicians and LE want to say when they really don't want to do what is needed.

Believe me, the IRS can check 1099's and other income. We were on the road working one year and did not include a $50 royalty check. The company didn't issue a 1099 or other document, we are supposed to use the check stub. They do report to IRS, though. We simply did not have that check stub with us and it got left off the return.

The IRS found it quickly enough - $50!! and we paid a penalty for forgetting $50.

So, yes, the government could do far more than it is.

Why am I getting the picture that NO ONE really wants to do anything about this?

There are dozens and dozens of simple things that could be done that would go a long way to fixing this problem. Yet, we are being told our courts and ICE detainers are the only ways available.

That is just plain false and we are being flimflammed by all the headlines about ICE, etc., etc.

They are waiving this in front of us and pretending they are helpless to do anything. It is a classic case of 'We really want to do something, but the bad ole nasty judges won't let us.'

That's just ridiculous and totally untrue.
