Senate mulls DACA extension, wall funding in March spending bill

Temporary protection for Dreamers could be squeezed into a March spending package along with border security funding, lawmakers said after the Senate failed to pass a more comprehensive measure on Thursday.

Senators announced the new plan after emerging from the chamber, where lawmakers defeated four immigration-related measures offered by both parties that would have provided Dreamers with permanent protection from deportation.

Two of the measures included $25 billion for border security and a pathway to citizenship for 1.8 million younger immigrants, or Dreamers, who came here illegally as children and may be at risk of deportation with the expiration of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program.

Republicans said the failure of the four bills has pointed them in a new direction. They will instead consider extending the DACA program for several years in a provision that would be included in the fiscal 2018 spending bill that must pass by March 23. The measure, known as the omnibus spending bill, would have to also include money for border security and a southern border wall, but lawmakers did not specify how much funding.

“If there can be some negotiation leading up to the omnibus, perhaps there will be some temporary [DACA] provision, which to me is not great but it’s kind of where we are,” Majority Whip John Cornyn, R-Texas, told reporters after four proposals were defeated.

Lawmakers defeated a bill backed mostly by Democrats and eight Republicans. It would have provided a pathway to citizenship for 1.8 million Dreamers and provided $25 billion in border security funding. But the bill also included enforcement priority provisions that many Republicans opposed, and it lacked changes to chain migration and an end to the visa lottery system sought by President Trump in another measure that also came up short on votes.

The authors of the bipartisan proposal said they are not giving up on their plan and believe they can tweak it to earn more GOP support.

Sen. Bob Corker, R-Tenn., said if the enforcement provisions are stripped from the proposal it would gain more GOP votes, although he acknowledged it would still fall short of the 60 needed to advance in the Senate.

“It would have gotten much closer,” Corker said. “It wasn’t as balanced as it needed to be.”

Sen. Mike Rounds, R-S.D., a main sponsor of the bipartisan plan, told reporters he’ll work with Republican leaders to get another floor vote.

The measure fell six votes short on Thursday, and President Trump had threatened to veto it.

“We’ll have a chance to regroup and take a look at what we can to take a bipartisan approach, modify some of those things where there were questions and try to see if we can’t get a second shot,” Rounds said after the vote.

But Republican leaders appeared reluctant for a round two on immigration.

“I don’t see it getting dedicated floor time,” Cornyn said. “If we couldn’t get it together this week... we’ve got other things we’ve got to do. Nominations and other bipartisan legislation."

Cornyn said immigration reform in the Senate is “endlessly frustrating. Bringing it up again on the floor for debates and votes would not produce enough consensus to pass a bill."

Cornyn, listen to me and listen good. Americans do not have any "empathy" or sympathy for "these young people". They are not our problem, we didn't bring them here, they are not our responsibility.

We have no empathy or sympathy for them. We have empathy for the American workers they and their parents stole jobs and businesses from, we have empathy and sympathy for the Americans who have lost their homes because they lost their jobs and businesses to illegal aliens including these DACA and their parents, we have empathy and sympathy for the young Americans who couldn't get a seat in a college or university because an illegal alien stole it, we have empathy and sympathy for American taxpayers bearing the brunt through taxes, deficits and debt supporting these people and their offspring when they aren't even supposed to be in our country.

We have empathy and sympathy for the Americans who have been killed, murdered, raped, robbed, mutilated, decapitated, abducted, enslaved, abused, robbed, defrauded and harmed in thousands of different ways by "these young people" and their parents and every other illegal alien. We have empathy and sympathy for the American Citizens who are guaranteed the domestic tranquility to wake up every day and know without any doubt that our government is doing its job and protecting our best interest, but who haven't enjoyed that tranquility for most of my life because of illegal immigration and the total failure of our government to end it once and for all.

So "apparently not yet" .... what kind of imbecile are you?? It's as obvious as the marble on your Capitol floors that the American People will never let a "deadline" or PR composed fabricated sob stories and pity parties of illegal aliens sell out our country or ourselves. So it's time for you to put your childish ways aside and wake up to the FACT that The Americans will never let you do another amnesty of any type for any illegal alien for any reason in the United States.

What you and every other member of the US Congress needs to be asking yourselves is:

What have I done to fix our country and make it great again for our American Citizens, American Workers and American Taxpayers?

Nothing you do that helps illegal aliens or immigrants is helping American Citizens, it is all hurting and harming US in the most basic and fundamental aspects of our lives. We've had it, we're done with it. No more. You work for US as fiduciaries. You and everyone else in power took an oath, it's time you started honoring it.

The purpose of our Constitution and the reason you have a job as a member of the US Senate:

We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

Please note "to ourselves and our posterity". That's our kids, not Mexican kids, not Chinese kids, not Korean kids, or Honduran kids, or El Salvador kids. It's American citizens and our kids and their kids and their kids.

We are not and never were a "Nation of Immigrants", we are a Nation of Citizens who explored, discovered, developed, and fought for our land, territory and country. If you or any other boom-bah in Congress thinks for a minute we're going to continue to hand it over to a bunch of johnny-come-lately foreigners, then you need to wake up and smell the smoke in the air, because right now, you've got 250 million pissed-off Americans in the United States wanting to kick all your butts out of Congress.

Save America, Deport Congress!

Through no fault of our own, we the American citizens, have suffered through thirty years of lies from the very body Senator Cornyn belongs, the U.S. Congress. He and others in government have failed us repeatedly and failed the nation. They have overall not sought to bring those who would strengthen the nation, who would assimilate and not need or steal services and benefits. They have left our nation exposed, left the people vulnerable and victims to illegal immigration. Family reunification has been a disaster and brought millions of welfare recipients to the country as well as haters of America. Congress' lack of will to end that and the visa lottery is despicable.

Please stop pleading for illegal aliens. They should not be your priority or ours. The citizens in your area deserve better representation. Some of the DACA recipients were not brought here as little ones, they were teenagers, possibly gang members. No matter the age they are not our responsibility. Allow the individuals and families to make decisions to return home or to move somewhere else willing to accept illegal foreign citizens.

Senator Cornyn, lobby for the enforcement of our laws on immigration. Stop protecting and representing those who have broken our laws. Your state of Texas is at risk from large numbers of illegal aliens who would eventually vote democrat with an amnesty path to citizenship,
