Ayotte Supports the Gang's BIll

Senator Kelly Ayotte of New Hampshire told CBS’s Face the Nation this morning that she supports the Gang of Eight’s immigration bill.

“This is a thoughtful bipartisan solution to a tough problem,” Ayotte said, giving a boost to the legislation. She also defended the bill’s path to legalization, calling it a “tough but fair way for them to earn citizenship.”

Ayotte, a former state attorney general who was elected in 2010, gives the Gang a critical new vote as the bill heads to the Senate floor. To avoid a filibuster, Senate supporters of the bill will need 60 votes, and Ayotte is one more step in that direction. “The status quo is unacceptable,” she explained. “Our immigration system is completely broken.”
