SENATOR SCOTT T. RUPPS ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION MEASURE SIGNED IN

SENATOR SCOTT T. RUPPS ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION MEASURE SIGNED INTO LAW

    States News Service
    July 9, 2009 Thursday
    JEFFERSON CITY, MISSOURI

The following information was released by the Missouri State Senate, Senator Scott T. Rupp (R):

Building upon successful anti-illegal immigration legislation passed in the Missouri General Assembly last year, Sen. Scott T. Rupp (R-Wentzville) advanced a measure during the 2009 legislative session that will prohibit public colleges and universities from awarding college financial aid to students who are unlawfully present in the United States.

The measure, incorporated into House Bill 390, was signed into law Tuesday and takes effect immediately. The bill also requires annual certification by junior colleges and universities that they have not enrolled illegal immigrants.

Because college aid is a public benefit guaranteed for only legal residents of our state, it was important to make certain only those who legally qualify for financial assistance are able to receive it, Sen. Rupp said.

In 2008, Sen. Rupps proposals to crack down on employers who knowingly hire illegal immigrants, to bar illegal immigrants from obtaining drivers licenses and to prevent illegal residents from receiving state or local public benefits were passed in the General Assembly making Missouri one of the toughest states on illegal immigration.

    Good news.

It is always exciting when states act to protect the American people instead of the illegals.
