Immigration reform blockage – the view from Mexico

The US has more than 12 million undocumented aliens, the majority of them Mexicans. To move forward with their legalization it is necessary to persuade the conservative political class of that country and that job requires more than just simply desire. The past failed initiatives for immigration reform are signs that, without an ample consensus, the attempts will fail again. After 9/11, it has been very difficult to place an immigration agenda above that of security. Legalization has become subordinate to a reinforced control of the border, which, for its extent, seems impossible to accomplish. To complicate things more, Democrats as well as Republicans have used the undocumented as scapegoats to explain problems like unemployment.

Now, the president of the US opens another opportunity for reform. The xenophobic Arizona law permitting the arrest of people on the basis of their racial profile opens a debate that has been lost since George Bush tried without success to pass immigration reform. As a consequence, an unprecedented coalition of more than 100 Democratic congressmen, mayors, business leaders and magnates — like Rupert Murdoch, owner of the conservative Fox network — whose objective will be to revive legislation efforts to bring the undocumented “out of limboâ€

Translation: We are a third world corrupt country and you will be like us wether you want to be or not

We make crack; we sell crack

We make drugs, you buy drugs

We decapitate people; you dont like that

Mexicans are racists: we will make you believe you are too

Mexicans don't like borders; because it keeps them from coming across by millions and millions more

go play third world failed state in your own back yard; and watch how fast we clean ours up

PS: you got a good place for Obama and McCain to move to.. they fit right in with third world dictators / Banana republic countrys and would get along great in Mexico

It is interesting clicking twice through to the original editorial and reading the comments in Spanish from people who are presumably Mexican and who none the less are sympathetic with our position. Mexico needs to fix it's problems not expect solutions to be provid for them by Americans out of our money against our will.

What a lot of bunk this article is. This writer can spew his racists claims all he wants, it doesn't change the fact that these people are illegal, and they are not our responsibility. The American people who pay for their aide and comfort with hard earned tax dollars while their own families go without, don't owe these illegal aliens squat. And we sure as hell are not required to make compromises with criminals by giving them amnesty.
