AS I said, temporarily delayed, not stopped:

Migrant Group Claims U.S. Now Processing ‘Caravan’ Asylum Requests at Border

A human rights group is reporting that U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officials have begun processing asylum requests from “caravan migrants.” The group claims officials have processed eight people seeking asylum at the San Ysidro Port of Entry.

“After more than 26 hours, Customs and Border Patrol has finally begun to process eight individuals seeking asylum at the southern border,” Human Rights First attorney Laura Gault said in a statement provided to Breitbart Texas. “While this is a positive development, we will continue to monitor the situation to ensure that all who came to legally seek protection are processed in accordance with U.S. law.”

CBP officials acknowledged they processing of migrants on Monday evening. “We began processing undocumented arrivals again on Monday,” a CBP official in San Diego wrote, according to a tweet by the Huffington Post’s Mat Ferner.

The reported statement says that the number of individuals the agency is able to process in a day varies based on a complex set of issues. CBP is still limiting the number of people being processed, the statement reads.

“Despite the administration’s efforts to dehumanize women and children patiently waiting at the border, as is evidenced by the latest statements from Vice President Pence, the members of the caravan are simply trying to exercise their legal right to apply for protection,” Gault concluded. “They are not ‘victims of open border advocates,’ they are victims of the Trump Administration’s yearlong attack on the asylum system.”

The eight people being processed allegedly came from the 20 or so migrants who camped out just outside the border access point on the San Ysidro Port of Entry, CBP officials said, according to ABC News. Those selected for processing were limited to mothers and children a caravan organizer told the news outlet. The eight people consisted of three mothers, four children, and one 18-year-old man traveling alone, Viridiana Vidal stated.

Sessions didn't go by himself, he took Immigration Judges with him to the border to process them, to let them in and be processed.

I'm sorry you missed all this, but that's what happened.

We go from not letting them to letting them in an separating the families to family detentions.

Just makes no sense at all. Sessions thinks these long detainments will discourage others as deterrents.

    I just can't relive this ... it's too depressing.
Homeland Security’s Nielsen says U.S. has asked asylum seekers to come back later

    Published: June 19, 2018 8:14 a.m. ET
Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen on Monday defended the Trump administration and suggested that would-be asylum seekers return when the U.S. is better prepared.

We are not turning them away. We are saying, ‘We want to take care of you in the right way; right now, we do not have the resources at this particular moment in time — come back,’ ” she said at a White House press briefing. There have been several reports that the U.S. has closed ports of entry for those seeking asylum.
She denied that the separation policy was meant to be a deterrent.

Sessions unveils 'zero tolerance' policy at southern border

BY BRETT SAMUELS - 05/07/18 09:54 PM EDT

Attorney General Jeff Sessions on Monday announced that the Department of Justice (DOJ) has enacted its previously announced “zero tolerance” policy for individuals who cross the southern border illegally, warning that children who are apprehended may be separated from their family.

“If you cross the border unlawfully, then we will prosecute you. It’s that simple,” Sessions said during a press conference at the U.S.-Mexico border near San Diego.

“If you smuggle illegal aliens across our border, then we will prosecute you,” he continued. “If you are smuggling a child, then we will prosecute you. And that child may be separated from you, as required by law.”

Sessions announced the crackdown in a memo last month making prosecuting immigration violations a DOJ priority.

DOJ said the new policy is in response to a report from the Department of Homeland Security that showed a 203 percent increase in illegal border crossings from March 2017 to March 2018 and a 37 percent increase from February 2018 to March 2018 — the largest month-to-month increase since 2011.

The move comes as President Trump has repeatedly called in recent months for tougher immigration laws to keep immigrants from illegally crossing from Mexico into the U.S.

The president has often cited a caravan of Central American migrants who in recent weeks made their way up through Mexico to the border near San Diego, with some seeking asylum in the U.S.

Dozens of those migrants have since crossed the border to have their asylum claims processed.

The DOJ announced 11 individuals associated with the caravan were arrested for illegally crossing the border.

Sessions said last week that additional U.S. attorneys and federal judges will be sent to the southern border to deal with an increase in immigration cases.

On Monday, Sessions warned that any violation of immigration law would be prosecuted.

“If you’re going to come to this country, come here legally. Don’t come here illegally,” Sessions said.

“The American people have a right to expect the laws their representatives voted for are going to be carried out,” he added. “Failure to enforce our duly enacted laws would be an affront to the American people.”

Immigration advocates have condemned the practice of separating immigrant children from their parents. The Department of Homeland Security’s inspector general is examining whether the department is separating the children of asylum seekers from their parents while in immigration custody.

The delay was hours or days, not months as you're attempting to suggest. Furthermore, when you originally brought this up (many posts ago), you were point blank saying our border patrol was turning people away, yet you made no mention that it was only temporary so they could catch up with the processing step in the process. Basically, your were clearly implying that the BP was turning them away permanently. That is what brought this discussion into play.

So to be clear, the border patrol was never turning any asylum claimants away because Trump told them to do so. However, the BP was forced to temporarily delay entry and processing to catch up with the huge surge of claimants that appeared at the border together (the caravan).

BP was turning them away at the border in April in response to Trump's concern over a surge at the border due to the release of the March 2018 figures that come out in April that were much higher than the March 2017 numbers. Trump was furious. He lashed out at Nielsen for not getting the job done, he tweets "we're closed", he orders National Guard troops to the border, he even calls Mexico and demands they stop it their end and a variety of other things we don't even know about, but nothing worked.

Trump tried to beat the system but the system beat him. He won't let that happen again. He'll come up with a new and different strategy which seems to me for now to be electing more Republicans to Congress so he can ask them to pass laws to help stop this disaster and Republicans would have enough votes to do so. He's also considering a new Executive Order on immigration that he'll announce in a few weeks.

So we'll see what happens. I don't think there will be much progress between now and the new EO and Mid-term elections unless by chance there's something in the new trade agreement with Mexico about this mess, but several years ago Steve King had a law passed that prevents a President or Trade Representative from including immigration related issues in trade deals, because King thinks they should be separate. King was out in the press a few months ago warning Trump and Lighthizer not to include any immigration related issues in the new deal with Mexico because due to his law that would be illegal. King meant well with his legislation because his goal was not to increase the number of visas that were part of the original NAFTA trade deal. I forget what type of visa it is, I think it's a T-Visa.

As best I can tell, the only real tangible things being done are being done by AG Jeff Sessions, not President Donald Trump. Trump lacks the knowledge of law to combat this problem effectively.
