SAN FRANCISCO -- A 33-year-old man is in custody after being extradited from Mexico last week in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a young girl in 2008.

The U.S. Marshals Service announced today that Fermin Pucheta-Temich was extradited back to San Francisco from Mexico City on Friday and now faces multiple charges of sexual assault on a minor.

San Francisco police issued a $2 million warrant for Pucheta-Temich's arrest in the days following the alleged assault of the 10-year-old girl on Dec. 16, 2008.

According to the Marshals Service, Pucheta-Temich was at home supervising three young children, including the alleged victim, when the assault occurred in a bathroom.

Pucheta-Temich allegedly fled to Mexico while the case was being investigated. He is now being held in San Francisco County jail in lieu of $2 million bail.

Pucheta-Temich faces one count of sex with a child age 10 or under, one count of aggravated sexual assault of a child, four counts of lewd acts on a child and two counts of making criminal threats, according to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. The first count alone carries a possible sentence of 25 years to life in prison.

Authorities have also placed an immigration hold on him, according to the San Francisco Sheriff's Department.

He was arraigned in San Francisco Superior Court on Monday.
