SOUTHEAST - A Brewster man found driving drunk is now facing deportation - federal authorities are seeking him for being in this country illegally, state police said.
Pedro Portillo, 32, of 95 Main St. drove across the median on Route 202 and knocked down some road signs around 6:45 p.m. yesterday, police said. Trooper Miguel Osoria saw this and pulled Portillo over, police said.
Portillo was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor, after troopers determined his blood-alcohol level to be 0.28 percent -more than three times the legal limit of 0.08 percent.
They also learned of a federal detainer warrant for Portillo, who is in the country illegally from Guatemala, police said.
Portillo is being held today at the Putnam County jail. He will eventually be turned over to federal authorities for deportation proceedings, police said.
