Illegal Alien Kills High School Senior Before Graduation, Says Prosecutor

    West Palm Beach, FL

An alleged illegal alien from Mexico killed a high school senior when he made an illegal turn in front of the teen, according to prosecutors. The 18-year-old victim would have graduated from high school later this month.

Eustacio Gregorio-Meza, a 40-year-old Mexican national, attempted to make a left turn and pulled in front of a motorcycle driven by Kenneth Scott Mahr, 18, the Palm Beach Post reported. In addition to not being licensed to drive, Meza is also in the country illegally, an assistant state attorney told the judge. The judge ordered the Mexican national held without bond in the county jail.

Witnesses stated that Meza failed to yield after making a left turn while leaving the parking lot of a gun club. He is reported to have turned in front of the motorcycle driven by Mahr causing the crash. Witnesses said he ran through the stop sign without stopping. Meza remained at the scene until police arrived.

The crash caused Mahr to be thrown off his motorcycle and onto the roadway. An ambulance transported the high school senior to a local hospital where he died from his injuries.

Police told reporters that Meza did have a driver’s license at one time. The state issued a license to the Mexican national on November 20, 2000, the local newspaper reported. That license expired on March 29, 2007.

This crash is the third time in recent weeks that illegal immigrants in south Florida are facing possible deportation following vehicle incidents.

Victor Rivera, a 48-year-old Mexican national, is in custody after he allegedly killed a 21-year-old motorcycle driver on April 31. He fled the scene after the crash because he did not have a license to drive, authorities told the local newspaper. He admitted to being in the U.S. illegally.

Nicolas Mateo, a Guatemalan national, is in custody following his arrest for an alleged DUI offense. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials told the local paper they deported Mateo in July 2016. In addition to facing deportation, the Guatemalan man faces charges of driving under the influence, child abuse and illegal reentry after removal. Officials reported his blood-alcohol content to be .196 — more than twice the legal limit.

JUST IN: Driver with no license held following fatal motorcycle crash

    11:27 a.m. Tuesday, May 16, 2017
    Palm Beach County Crime

    Meza

WEST PALM BEACHA 40-year-old Greenacres-area man driving without a valid license struck and killed an 18-year-old motorcyclist Sunday afternoon in suburban West Palm Beach, court documents show.

Kenneth Scott Mahr was pronounced dead at St. Mary’s Medical Center following the crash, which took place just after 2:30 p.m. on Gun Club Road just west of Military Trail. Mahr was set to graduate from high school in just a few weeks, said J.J. Sciarrino, the general manager of Broward Motorsports, where the teen had worked since August as a technician.

“He was a great kid,” Sciarrino said. “His life was just about ready to start.”

On Monday morning, Eustacio Gregorio-Meza was ordered held without bond as he appeared in court to face a charge of not having a valid driver’s license in a crash causing a death. A native of Mexico, Meza is in the country illegally, an assistant state attorney told Judge Caroline Shepherd at a first-appearance hearing Monday at the Palm Beach County Jail.

Meza is at least the third Palm Beach County resident accused of being in the country illegally who has been arrested in recent weeks on vehicle-related charges. All may face deportation to their native countries.

According to information on Mahr’s Facebook page, he lived in Greenacres and was a student at Palm Beach Central High School. During Monday’s hearing, Mahr’s mother was consoled by other family members as she broke down in tears. After the hearing, family members said they did not want to speak publicly about the case.

Meza was leaving a parking lot on Gun Club and attempting to make a left turn when he crossed into the path of Mahr’s westbound 2017 Suzuki motorcycle, according to a sheriff’s report made public Monday. Mahr was thrown onto the roadway. He died at St. Mary’s Medical Center in West Palm Beach.

Meza was issued a valid driver’s license on Nov. 20, 2000, but it expired March 29, 2007, court records show. A witness told investigators Meza drove through a stop sign without stopping. Meza remained at the scene until deputies arrived, the report said.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement said it did not have enough information Monday to comment on Meza’s status, but his arrest follows those of two other men who could be facing deportation after his arrest.

Authorities say Victor Villaneueva Rivera, a 48-year-old Mexican citizen, fled the scene of a crash that killed a 21-year-old motorcyclist last month in Boynton Beach. Brandon Wesson of Palm Beach Gardens died April 31 when his motorcycle collided with a pickup that was turning from Hypoluxo Road north onto Lawrence Road. Rivera reportedly told investigators he doesn’t have a license because he is in the U.S. illegally.

This month, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement filed a motion to deport Nicolas Mateo for the second time in less than a year. Mateo, a native Guatemala now living in Loxahatchee, was arrested in December in Wellington on a charge of DUI. Authorities say Mateo entered the country illegally after having been deported to Guatemala last July.
