Undocumented worker from Mexico gets probation for aggravated assault

CHEYENNE -- An undocumented worker from Mexico will serve 10 years of supervised probation and face deportation stemming from a shooting incident last year.
Erick Linares-Cuevas, 24, pleaded no contest to aggravated assault charges on March 28.
Laramie County District Judge Peter Arnold on Monday sentenced Linares-Cuevas to eight to 10 years in prison and then suspended that for 10 years of supervised probation.
Linares-Cuevas is on a hold with the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and could face deportation.
"If you re-enter the U.S. illegally and you have not complied with the terms for probation, you will be subject to the underlying sentence," Arnold said.
Linares-Cuevas was originally charged with conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, but the state agreed to drop all remaining charges as part of a plea agreement.
Linares-Cuevas allegedly pointed a pistol at several individuals in a threatening manner on East Prosser Road on June 2, 2010.
Three individuals were injured in the incident by a shotgun allegedly discharged by Eduardo Reyes-Mejia, 19.
The plea agreement also specifies that Linares-Cuevas provide truthful testimony against his codefendants in the case.
He chose not to make a statement at the sentencing hearing.
