Maricopa County sheriff's deputies arrested 116 people during a nine-day crime suppression effort in Wickenburg, officials said Tuesday. Among those arrested were 25 undocumented immigrants.
Operation Northern Star, conducted to assist the Wickenburg Police Department, comes on the heels of last week's crackdown in Cave Creek, during which nine undocumented immigrants were arrested just outside a church.
Sheriff Joe Arpaio has vowed to continue using deputies trained in immigration enforcement to target other areas of the county.
During the Wickenburg effort, deputies issued 48 criminal and 128 civil citations.
Sixteen drug arrests were made, and five people were arrested on suspicion driving under the influence. Six felony warrants and 14 misdemeanor warrants were cleared.
