Florida Gov. Rick Scott Opposes Ending DACA

Gov. Rick Scott says he's opposed to ending the "Dreamers" program protecting illegal immigrants brought to the United States by their parents, saying it'd be "punishing children for the actions of their parents."



In a statement, the Florida Republican said President Barack Obama "was wrong" to address the issue with his Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals executive order in 2012.



"He should have done it in conjunction with Congress, which is how we make laws in our democracy," Scott said in statement.
"But this issue must be addressed. I do not favor punishing children for the actions of their parents. These kids must be allowed to pursue the American Dream, and Congress must act on this immediately."



Scott's statement follows a White House announcement that President Donald Trump would announce his decision on whether to end the DACA program on Tuesday.



Scott became the latest of a growing number of Republicans urging Trump to keep protections for Dreamers in place.



"The decision itself is weighing on him," White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders told reporters Friday, The Hill reported.



"The president's priorities of immigration are to create a system that encourages legal immigration and benefits our economy and American workers."
