Slaughter of Honduran Children Likely Linked to Texas Illegal Immigration Influx

“Don’t leave me, my children!” cries an inconsolable grandmother as she watches the burial of her grandson in Honduras. This boy’s death would be the second in just a few days of a, “horrific wave of violence against children in Honduras” reports Digital Journal . The child was 7 years old, his body was found shot, tortured, wrapped in a sheet, and abandoned in a vacant Central American parking lot.

Deaths like these are becoming common in Honduras. In just one month in San Pedro Sula, six more young children were murdered in a similarly brutal manner. The reasons for their untimely deaths were the same--they refused to join a street gang, according to the Digital Journal report.

Breitbart Texas’ contributing editor and border expert, Sylvia Longmire, notes, “It’s so difficult for many Americans to really comprehend the horrible situation these families and children find themselves in every single day, because we don’t have to worry about our own children being forcibly recruited into these lethal gangs.”

The report reveals that last week, members of the gang, Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13), broke into a youth detention center, overpowered the guards, and killed five members of the Mara 18 (M-18), a rival gang. Later that day, a man would stab a 13 year old girl to death, and then proceed to kill her 10, 7, and 2 year old siblings.

Longmire added, “Just imagine a 7 year-old American child being tortured and shot in the United States for refusing to join the Latin Kings or MS-13 in Los Angeles or Baltimore…the headlines would be screaming everywhere here.”

At 79 homicides per 100,000 inhabitants, the Digital Journal reports the Violence Observatory at the National University in Honduras as asserting that the Central American nation has the highest homicide rate in the world. While not unaccustomed to violence, this recent assault against children has reportedly come as a shock to the country.

The report also contains an interview the paper El Heraldo conducted with Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernandez. The president hinted that these killings may be blowback against his administration’s security policy.

“I pray to god that it is not true that this issue of the children is a response to what we have been doing” he told the reporter.

Since his inauguration in January, Hernandez has lead a military-led assault on crime in Honduras, according to the report.

Many fear this violence may be spreading to the United States. Breitbart’s Sylvia Longmire argues that, “We’re not connecting the dots between that violence and the increase in illegal immigration to places like South Texas.” Longmire argues, “Our border security strategy is sorely lacking without a doubt, but by focusing only on how to stop the wave through enforcement rather than how to address the root cause, we’re only treating the symptom and not the disease.”
