BP Arrests Attempted Child Sex Abuser

TUCSON, Ariz. – U.S. Border Patrol agents patrolling near Lukeville, Arizona, arrested an El Salvadorian man with a felony conviction for attempted sex crimes Monday evening.

Tucson Sector agents encountered three individuals near the international border around 7 p.m. During field processing, they discovered an El Salvadorian national in the group was a previously deported convicted felon.

Jose Chavez-Garcia, 28, was convicted of Attempted First-Degree Child Sex Abuse in Washington, D.C., in 2015. Chavez-Garcia was sentenced to thirty-three months in prison for the offense.

Chavez-Garcia remains in custody, pending prosecution for reentry of a previously removed felon.

The other two people encountered were expelled to Mexico under Title 42 authority.
