LA GRULLA — A Mexican national faces allegations that he repeatedly kicked a Border Patrol agent in the face late Wednesday night.

Agents had been tracking a group of suspected undocumented immigrants in La Grulla near Leopoldo Longoria and La Grulla streets about 10 p.m. Wednesday, according to a criminal complaint published Friday.

Border Patrol tracked the group to a nearby brushy area, where one man tried to outrun agents, the complaint states.

An agent — named in court papers as S.P. — caught up to the man and grabbed his leg, the complaint says.

The man, later identified as Diego Nuñez Granados, 22, repeatedly kicked the agent in the face, according to the complaint.

The kicks to the face left the agent with several scratches on his face and a cut on his forehead. He received treatment at Mission Medical Center.

Nuñez remains in federal custody. He is the second person to be charged with assaulting a Border Patrol agent in less than two months.

Moises de Jesus Rodriguez Gutierrez, 28, remains in federal custody after he allegedly kicked an agent in the head during a foot chase near Abram in March.
