Angle targets Reid with unemployment numbers

The release of Nevada's unemployment figures is always an occasion for another blast at Senate Majority Harry Reid, and Monday was no exception. The Sharron Angle campaign issued a statement after the latest figures showed the state's unemployment rate at 14.4 percent, still the highest in the nation, "with no end in sight," as Mrs. Angle put it.

"Nothing Harry Reid is doing is working and his own state is paying the heaviest price," said the Republican Angle, who's challenging the ever-vulnerable but still-kicking Reid for his Senate seat.

Mrs. Angle also tied the state's jobless rate to the immigration issue, which has taken center stage on the campaign trail since Mr. Reid announced last week he would attach the DREAM Act to the defense authorization bill.

"But instead of addressing the unemployment issue, Mr. Reid will spend this week in Washington, D.C., trying to push a form of amnesty through the Senate," said Mrs. Angle. "Sadly, the DREAM Act is another attempt to incentivize illegal aliens to cross our borders to gain citizenship."

Mr. Reid's support for the DREAM Act is viewed as effort to bolster the Obama administration's credentials with Hispanic voters, but it's hard to fathom how it will help him on the campaign trail. The Democratic incumbent is likely to win most of the state's Hispanic votes anyway, while his leadership on the DREAM Act could inflame independents and push them into the Angle camp.

Mr. Reid and Mrs. Angle have been locked in a dead heat for weeks, with neither candidate able to break the 50-percent ceiling.
