Man gets 3 years for transporting illegals

A 55-year-old Tucson man was sentenced Thursday to more than three years in prison after he was convicted of transporting illegal immigrants, authorities said.
Alfonso Alejandro Garcia was convicted of one count of conspiracy to transport illegal aliens for profit and two counts of transportation of an illegal alien for profit, according to a U.S. Attorney's Office press release.
Garcia was arrested in June 2008 after he was riding in a vehicle that was carrying two illegal immigrants, the press release stated.
The vehicle was stopped at a U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint near Three Points when agents discovered the two immigrants, the press release stated.
One was in the front seat of the vehicle, while the other person was in the trunk, the press release stated.
