Southern Poverty Law Center Takes a Swipe
It is disheartening to see reports like this. Good to know what is being said about us though, whether directly or by insinuation /association. The anti-illegal immigration/amnesty side of this debate needs a concerted vocal effort to stay away from racists like this. We should all avoid people like this anyway. Tell me its a lie. We don't have people like this speaking for our side to the national media do we?! Is this Lawless for real?

Mike Moore taking on immigration too!
http://www.michaelmoore.com/words/la...ex.php?id=6813
I would LOVE to see these people exposed for what they ARE! HATE SPEECH PANDERERS! How is this not used to scare us!? They are trying to make us abandon our convictions our RIGHTS for fear of Michael Moore calling us a name or associating us TENUOUSLY with some extreme right-wing nutjob. Terrible part is that if enough of them do this for long enough people will start to believe them. Especially if more of us don't speak up.<div>* It is only when the people become ignorant and corrupt, when they degenerate into a populace, that they are incapable of exercising their sovereignty.* -- John Adams

note that theSouthern Poverty Law Center uses the same wording in all it's articles "anti-immigration movement" not anti illegal immigration.

Zach,
Profound finds!
You know, someone posted our protest flyer to a hate group forum. I wondered if the opposition did it. Also, the skin heads that showed up had their own personal hecklers. It was not even about immigration reform it was about these two groups showing up at our party to bicker with each other.
The haters want to hang with us because we have a real issue and can attract the press.

Communists!
The thing that gets me is the people they have listed are true patriotic Americans so it is the Patriots of this Country, the ones that want to protect our rights and constitution that they attack. They are the lowest of the low along with the ACLU. Both groups are doing everything they can to destroy this Country! I wish they would at least take the "Southern" out of their name. They make the South look bad!

The Southern Poverty Law Center tries to justify it's existance and big payrolls for a lot of staff by hunting down racism. They have been starved for justification since the KKK is only a remnant and the other right wing groups have faded into obscurity.
So the SPLC sees dollar signs in entering the top issue of our day and they can't be in the issue unless they have someone to call a racist.
I do not know the details on the Laine Lawless e-mail. I would not trust a single thing the SPLC puts out, but if the e-mail is legitimate then 1. Goes to show how stupid it is for people to try and vent their deeper angers on this issue and 2. I don't think Lawless was an officer in the MM and does not speak for the organization.
Saying that Lawless speaks for the MM would be like saying someone that posted on our boards spoke for ALIPAC. There is absolutely no way any group in America can defend against that kind of association attack.
White Nationalists watch American Idol. Does that make the other viewers or the American Idol producers white nationalists? White Nationalists link to the White House web page and make comments for and against the President's policies. Does that make President Bush or his policies white nationalist?
The Character profiles they have done called "Meet the Nativists" is down right sleaze.
Sleaze is an understatement for what they have attempted to do here. Someone should give them a taste of their own medicine.
They criticize one guy for living in a mostly white neighborhood?
They bash the now deceased Dr. Cosmon for being a "Renaissance Fair queen" and member of a Jewish group?
They list "California Coalition for Immigration Reform" as a hate group because they dont like their tone? Since when did tone make one a hate group? CCIR's Coe was a driving force behind California's Prop. 187 that passed by a landslide so they list her as a hate group. The most Ive seen them say they have on her is she called Mexicans Barbarians. She should not have said that, but is that all it takes to become a hate group?
As an enemy, you can dig up some fact and pseudo facts on just about anyone and twist them into a seeming "report" when in fact the product is no more a "report" than a political hit piece.
The SPCLC even hates NumbersUSA, FAIR, Tom Tancredo.
In their book, there is NOTHING an American citizen can do and NO GROUP they can join to fight illegal immigration without being a RACIST and HATEFULL PERSON.

The writer calls it "demonize.com" or "why debate when you can hate?"
