The Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) is thanking House leaders for pulling the controversial border security legislation from the schedule this week.

“Thanks to house of Rep not moving ahead w Border Security bill. It wld not secure border. Now House has time to marry that w Judiciary bill,” the Iowa lawmaker wrote in a tweet Tuesday.

House leaders pulled Homeland Security Chairman Michael McCaul’s Secure Our Borders First Act from the vote schedule Monday, initially blaming weather and the short week.

Tuesday, House Speaker John Boehner said leadership would continue to work on the matter with members and Republicans signaled that coupling the border security bill with an interior enforcement effort from the House Judiciary Committee might be part of those conversations.

Sounds like something new and perhaps better since Grassley is Chairman of House Judiciary Committee. Maybe this is the time for Grassley to use his Committee to approve Marsha Blackburn's bill that acknowledges and authorizes the states to use their magnificent law enforcement resources to enforce US immigration law as well as Steve King's bill to end automatic birthright citizenship for children born to illegal aliens.

Those bills together with E-Verify and an actual detailed enforcement law that binds the Executive Branch to enforce the law without all these "discretionary" powers could become legislation that might actually work and at least help solve this problem.
