Steve King: Revoke Citizenship Of Anyone Who Obtained It By Mistake Or Through Fraud

WASHINGTON — Republican Iowa Rep. Steve King wants the American citizenship of any person who was granted it by mistake or by fraud to be revoked.
King made this clear when discussing the recent news that that United States Citizenship and Immigration Services naturalized at least 850 individuals who should not have been granted U.S. citizenship status.
The department’s inspector general found that shoddy management of fingerprint records permitted hundreds of individuals to wrongfully get citizenship despite documented risks and deportation orders.
“It seems that number might be doubled even. I want to get into that and see what it takes to revoke that citizenship. Legally, we can revoke citizenship of almost anyone if they make the violations that are clear and many of them, as I understand it, committed fraud to get the path to citizenship,” King told The Daily Caller Friday.
Senate Homeland Security Chairman Ron Johnson and Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley are also looking into internal Department of Homeland Security communications telling staff to process as many citizenship applications “due to the election year.”
The email obtained by the committees shows that staff are being urged to work overtime to process as many N-400 naturalization applications as possible.
According to the email sent to adjudicators in the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Houston field office on July 21, “The Field Office due to the election year needs to process as many of their N-400 cases as possible between now and FY 2016.”
It told personnel to work overtime and announced the office would be available on weekends to assist such overtime work.
The letter also talks about how a similar push to expand the number of potential voters prior the 1996 election resulted in almost three times as many approvals of naturalization applications at the expense of national security safeguards.
“I recall back in 1996 there was a fast track to naturalize a million new citizens — mostly they focused hard on California. That was an effort Al Gore led up along with the Social Security administration,” King said. “It was a fast track to citizenship and a real effort to naturalize as many and I’ve talked to some of them that migrated their way up to my neighborhood that said they did get that fast track to citizenship and they understood to go into the polls and vote for Bill Clinton.”
