CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Police have a suspect in custody after a kidnapping in east Charlotte on Wednesday.

Officers said Arturo Angeles, 33, kidnapped a 44-year-old woman from a Latin grocery store on Eastway Drive. He took her to a location on Woodbend Drive and the woman was able to escape.

Angeles then went back to the store and kidnapped two male workers. He brought them to Woodbend Drive as well and was arrested by officers when he arrived, police said.

Officers said before the kidnappings, Angeles, armed with a gun, was trying to get a woman he knows to talk to him at the Woodbend Drive apartments off Farm Pond Lane. When she refused, he went to the grocery store and brought his victims back to the apartment complex, but the woman inside the apartment still refused to talk to him.

At some point, the suspect also fired a shot at a car in the parking lot, but no one was hurt.

Angeles faces a string of charges in connection with the incident. Police also said he is an illegal alien.
