OR: Suspect in deadly hit-and-run arrested on anniversary

Suspect in deadly hit-and-run arrested on anniversary of crime

05:59 PM PDT on Monday, July 16, 2007

By SCOTT BURTON, Special to kgw.com

One year to the day after a jogger was hit and killed by a car in the Columbia Gorge police made an arrest in the case.

Out for a summer jog in Dodson, Kimberly Powell was hit and killed by a passing car July 14, 2006.

Powell, now referred to as Kimberly McDaniel by family, was found barely alive in a blackberry thicket along Frontage Road.

The aspiring drummer was rushed to Legacy Emanuel Hospital where she died one day later.

Her case had dragged on for a year without an arrest until Saturday. On the one-year anniversary of the collision that took Kimberly’s life, detectives arrested 25 year-old Rosendo Rosales-Corona in Lodi, California.

    Hands Tied

Detectives had been following Rosales-Corona since February. A confidential informant tipped them off to his location in Michoacan, Mexico. Unable to cross the border to make an arrest, detectives began to work with the Mexican government. For months it proved fruitless. Their hands were tied.

“If I could have driven into Mexico I probably could have driven to the exact location where he was at and me and my partner could have grabbed him and brought him back," said Detective Jay Pentheny of the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office.

Detectives continued their negotiations without success.

    Looking for Work

In late June, Detective Pentheny and his partner Detective Jason Servo of the Gresham Police Department got a tip. Rosales-Corona had moved to Lodi, California to look for seasonal farm work. The detectives worked to confirm an exact location.

With information in hand, Servo and Pentheny traveled to Lodi last week. By Friday, their efforts had turned up no sign of Rosales-Corona.

“Everything fell apart Friday night. We went back to the room Friday night and went crap. We're out of leads,â€

All these illegals supporters should be asked just how much "collateral damage" they would accept in order to have their cheap labor and their votes and to satisfy the "bleeding hearts". How many thousands of situations like this will they accept? How many deaths? How many broken lives from serious injuries? How much of a cultural lobotomy of this country is OK with them?

Is even ONE death worth all the cheap produce in the world??? Is ONE child raped OK as long as there is plenty of slave labor available to satisfy the greed mongers? How many deaths will the "church" accept to satisfy their need to feel "holier than thou"?

They should be MADE to face it and to answer the question just like it's done in wars! How much collateral damage can you accept or stomach???

I've sent a copy of this story to Wyden and Smith, but being out of state, it's doubtful they read my messages.

    Speak up, Oregonians!

We just got the city council to restrict the taco trucks, yesterday. There is a heavy illegal population, here, and the gang members and fugitives keep hiding here. People are getting pissed of. Stores like WalMart, Food4Less, KMart, amd Mervyns look like Tijuana stores, Plus they have a Rancho San Miguel store, one of those "no licenso no credito" car dealerships, and like 3-4 Bank of Americas. Does it look like pandering?
