More than 70 suspected illegal immigrants in Palmview house

PALMVIEW, Texas — An auto theft ring investigation led to the discovery today of more than 70 suspected illegal immigrants in a South Texas house.

Border Patrol agents detained dozens of people from the single family-type house in the Palmview area, near Mission.

K-R-G-V television reports the suspected illegal immigrants are from Mexico and Central America.

Authorities caught a man accused of leading the car theft ring. He's also expected to face human smuggling-related charges.

Investigators say some vehicles reported stolen from the Houston area were located outside the house.

70 people in a house? No wonder we are being infested with bed bugs and other diseases.

This is in Hidalgo County on the border, right off a major highway.

Must be a darn Mansion to fit 70 people... unless the are the size of Hobbits

What they do is put airmattress on the floor and charge them rent. I heard that from the cable guy and appliance repair man. The appliance man told me that he had to walk over them to get to the kitchen.

They take the cushions off of discarded couches. You never see a piece of curbside furniture around here that has the cushions left on it.

These human smugglers are the worst kind. They rob the migrants or hold them for ransom and they usually rape the women.

I never thought of that. It is the same in South Florida. The odd time when you do see the cushions when you drive past it again in afew hours, the cushions are gone.

Remember a time when things like this would be totally surreal?

In that time, I'm sure the perpetrators would also be hunted down and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
